Monu Chauhan owns the opening day of Young Comrade while Karan & Shikhar fight it out in the Young Comrade Shield’20

Played between Fort Vijay CC and Parel Sporting Club at the MIG Cricket Ground, Fort Vijay CC in a record batting first had all their top 5 batsman hitting half centuries which is a very rare instance. Openers Sairaj Sangle and Monu Chauhan laid the foundation with a 102 run opening stand where in Sairaj scored 64 (107 balls) & Monu Chauhan smashed 58 off 75 balls.

Coming at no.3, Anees Choudhary continued the positive momentum with a solid 64 off 96 while Siddarth Mhatre at no.4 top scored with 85 runs off 88 balls. Nikhil Patil at no.5 was the entertainer of the match smashing a quickfire 56 off 25 balls which had 5 biggies in it eventually pushing the team total to 392/7 in 70 overs.

Parel SC were off to a decent start with openers Vicky Patil (33) and Karan Sonavale (pic above) putting on 70 runs for the 1st wicket. Sonavale who has been amongst the runs this season once again scored a handsome 68 off 105 balls.

Shikhar Mehta

However, Parel SC lost a few quick wickets in between but it was their all-rounder Shikhar Mehta at no.8 pulling off a blinder with a ravishing knock of 80* in mere 50 balls. Seems like the productive county season for Shikhar where he was amongst the runs as well wickets have worked well for him as he slogged at a strike rate of 160.00 hitting 11 fours and 4 sixes.

However, those efforts were not enough to save his team as he lacked support from the other end. Monu Chauhan came up with a brilliant spell of 5/59 in 17.1 overs which proved to be quite crucial. Left arm spinner Kunal Thorat also came good his spell of 4/96 in 20 overs as Parel SC were all out for 295/10 in 66.1 overs.

Result-Fort Vijay CC won the match by 97 runs
