Sankalp, Amit and Prakash star in the finals as Young Star CC Thane win the Summer Shield Tournament‘18

 

Played at the Karnatak Sporting Club, Cross Maidan, after a grueling and intenseful season where teams from different corners of Mumbai come and perform, two best teams who have fought ahrd throughout the tournament took on each other namely Youngstar CC and Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana club where in JVPG won the toss and elected to field first.

Youngstar batting first notched up a decent total of 224/8 in 45overs which is a defendable score on a pitch like cross maidan. The team was off to a solid start with Rahul Bhat (35 off 62) and Sankalp Pednekar (58 off 99) giving an opening stand of 98runs. Rahul batted well while Sankalp lended much needed stability at the top order. Then came a string of 20’s before Amit Rathore who came at no.8 scored a really crucial knock of 44 off mere 23balls laced with 6fours and a six. Amit’s 44 was a crucial cameo which helped his team cross the 200run mark.

Defending a total of 225, Youngstar bowlers did an excellent job of restricting JVPG to 188/all out in 44 overs. Left-arm spinner Prakash Aswani who is one of the most experienced bowlers in the team delivered at the right time when it was needed coming up with match winning bowling figures of 4/33 in 9overs. Amit Rathore made it an all-round perfomance also bagging 3wkts with his off spin alongwith 2wkts for Aniket.

Youngstar CC win the finals and lift the coveted trophy by 36runs on the back of excellent team perfomance led by Sankalp, Amit and Prakash. Youngstar cc(Thane) was coached by Sangam Lad sir. As a coach this was Lad sir’s third championship in this season (2017- 18) in Mumbai’s highly competitive club cricket scenario.  Under his guidance besides Thane side winning summer shield his another teams namely Bharat cricket club became champions of knockout kanga tournament & Regent cricket club promoted from F division to E division of kanga league tournament.
