Nikhil Patil slams unbeaten Double Century in Parsee Gymkhana’s huge victory in Police Shield’21
Mumbai, November 28: Nikhil Patil Jr.’s marathon unbeaten double century knock of 205 was the highlight of Parsee Gymkhana’s thumping 118 runs victory against a spirited Bombay Gymkhana in a high-scoring Group-C match of the Automotive Manufacturing-74th Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2021-2022 and played at the Parsee Gymkhana ground on Sunday.
Parsee Gymkhana resuming at the overnight total of 337 for the loss of six wickets in 61 overs added a further 90 runs from the remaining nine overs to compile a mammoth total of 427 for 8 wickets. Bombay Gymkhana tried to chase the target but they were dismissed for 309 in 58.4 overs.
Nikhil Patil who was unbeaten 154 runs continued in his aggressive batting fashion putting on another 51 runs to his innings which came from just 159 balls and was studded with 18 boundaries and 11 sweetly-timed sixes. Parag Khanpurkar also made huge contribution, scoring 115 runs from 112-balls with 12 hits to the ropes and 4 sixes. Siddhant Singh who picked up 4 for 75 runs was Bombay Gymkhana’s most successful bowler.
Bombay Gymkhana’s Sidharth Akre top-scored with a century effort of 113 runs (123b, 16×4) and received good support from Nikhil Patil 76 runs and Swapnil Bhiwalkar 39 runs. Parsee Gymkhana bowlers Yash Dicholkar (4/74) and Sidharth Raut (4/109) were responsible for completing the victory.
In an interesting Group-A match, Automotive Manufacturing Cricket Club went down fighting to Islam Gymkhana by a narrow 6-run margin. Batting first, Islam Gymkhana managed to score 295 runs for 9 wickets in 70 overs. Kaustubh Pawar 67 runs, Salman Ahmed 61 runs and Salil Agharkar unbeaten 54 runs propped the Islam Gymkhana innings. In reply Automotive Manufacturing CC riding of the century effort of Mayur Sanap who cracked 124 (135b, 11×4, 4×6) and Rugved More 55 runs came close to surpass the winning target. But their efforts were foiled by Islam Gymkhana’s Nadeem Shaikh who claimed 5 for 77 to deny Automotive Manufacturing CC from earning a win.
In another Group-A tie, defending champions Payyade Sports Club defeated New Hind Sports Club by 129 runs and in a Group-D encounter, hosts Mumbai Police Gymkhana recorded a 6-wicket victory against Karnatak Sporting Association.
