Young Zoroastrian advance into semis ; Harsh Nadkar Shines for Kalyan Centre

Mumbai, May 16: Young Zoroastrian Azad Maidan Centre defeated Kalyan Centre on the basis of the first innings lead on the second day of their quarter-final match of the 26th Late Ajit Naik Memorial Under-14 selection trials cricket tournament 2023, organised by WSC under the aegis of the Mumbai Cricket Association and played at the Worli SC ground on Tuesday.

Batting first Young Zoroastrian first innings finished at 151 all out in 61.3 overs at the end of the first day. Kalyan Centre batsmen also struggled to deal with the rival bowling attack as was dismissed for 143 runs in 42.4 overs. Harsh Nadkar, who had claimed 7 wickets for 39 runs, was Kalyan Centre’s best batsman and scored 42 runs but his team fell short and conceded a crucial 8 run lead to Young Zoroastrian, which ensured they advanced to the semi-finals. Zoroastrian’s bowler Shon Koregaonkar 5 for 35 was responsible for the team grabbing the lead.

In the second innings, Young Zoroastrian reached 101 for 4, in 28 overs. Once again the top-scorer was Satyanarayan Ghuge who made 37 runs and the match ended in a draw.

Kalyan Centre’s all-rounder Harsh Nadkar who picked 7 wickets for 39 runs and then top-scored with 42 runs for his team was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’.
