Tale of Tons: Bhupen Lalwani, Atharva Ankolekar, & Akshat Jain slam tons in U25 Shalini Bhalekar Trophy

Dilip Vengsarkar XI took on Chandrakant Pandit XI in match number two of the U25 Shalini Bhalekar Trophy from December 13 to 15. Chandrakant Pandit XI won the toss and elected to bat.

Batting first, Chandrakant Pandit XI were all out for 265 in 82.1 overs. Jayesh Pokhare top-scored with 91, and Sahil Jadhav chipped in with 57. For Dilip Vengsarkar XI, Himanshu Singh was the pick of the bowlers with 67/5. In reply, Dilip Vengsarkar XI scored 344 in 64.3 overs, riding on Atharva Ankolekar’s 124, Harshal Jadhav’s 96, and Sagar Chhabria’s 44. Chandrakant Pandit XI’s Praful Devkate struck with 97/5.

Trailing by 79 runs, Chandrakant Pandit XI piled up 265 in 58 overs. Bhupen Lalwani hit an unbeaten 104 and was well-supported by Prayag Kumar, who scored 33. Dilip Vengsarkar XI’s Dhanit Raut wreaked havoc with the ball accounting for 106/7. Raut found an able ally in Sourabh Singh, who scalped 40/3. Chasing 187, Dilip Vengsarkar XI completed the formalities in 32.5 overs with nine wickets in hand. Akshat Jain’s 101 and Sagar Chhabria’s unbeaten 83 guided the team to a comprehensive win.

Cricket is a sport that Juili picked up right from her childhood days. Her journey from playing with the boys in the compound walls to practising under the able aegis of Jonty Rhodes has been a spectacular one.
She was a part of Mumbai Women’s U-19 and U-23 probables during her four-year stint at the MCA. As a middle order bat and a part time medium pace bowler, she also represented Mumbai University at All-India University Women’s Cricket for two years.

In the quest of further education, she discontinued with the sport. Currently she is pursuing her Ph.D in Finance from IIT Bombay’s School of Management.
