Super Strikers pip Dark Knight Riders to win TPL 5

On October 16, the final of the fifth edition of the Tyrant Premier League (TPL) was played at the Catholic Gymkhana Turf in Mumbai. Super Strikers and Dark Knight Riders locked horns against each other in a best-of-three affair. Super Strikers won 2-1 to clinch the TPL championship.

Match 1: Dark Knight Riders win by 4 wickets

Batting first, Super Strikers piled up 64/9 in 13 overs, riding on captain Abhishek Ajbani’s 22 off 23. Shanay Chokshi and skipper Nilay Dani accounted for two wickets each for Dark Knight Riders. In reply, Dark Knight Riders overhauled the target in 12.1 overs, winning the match by four wickets. Chokshi top-scored with an unbeaten 15 of eight, while for Super Strikers, six out of the 10 bowlers used picked up one wicket apiece.

Match 2: Super Strikers win by 9 wickets

After going down 0-1 in the three-match affair, Super Strikers came out all guns blazing as they trounced Dark Knight Riders by nine wickets in the second game. Super Strikers skittled out Dark Knight Riders for 60 and, in reply, cruised to the target in just seven overs. While Chintit Vora was the lone warrior in the fight for Dark Knight Riders with 28 runs off 35 balls, Manit Varaiya (24 not out) and Harsh Mehta (23 not out) ensured that their team’s hopes were kept alive in the finals. Among the bowlers, Shanay Chokshi was the only wicket-taker for Dark Knight Riders, while for Super Strikers, Yashesh Parikh was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 7/2 in two overs.

Match 3: Super Strikers win by 3 wickets

With the three-match series being evenly poised at 1-1, Super Strikers and Dark Knight Riders fought their hearts out in the last and final game. Batting first, Dark Knight Riders posted 70/7 in 13 overs, with captain Nilay Dani top-scoring with an unbeaten 20 off 19. Dani’s counterpart, Abhishek Ajbani, was the most successful bowler for Super Strikers as he claimed 6/2 in two overs. Super Strikers chased down the total on the last ball as the match went down the wire. Harsh Mehta led the run chase from the front, scoring 22 off 30, while for Dark Knight Riders, Shaival Sheth was the pick of the bowlers as he accounted for 4/3 in two overs.
