Sunil Patil’s Century and Nimish Jambhulkar’s Six-For Set the Tone in Kanga League 2026 Opener

The Dr H. D. Kanga Cricket League 2026 got underway on 23rd August at the iconic Azad Maidan, with Mumbai Police Gymkhana taking on Apollo Cricket Club in the opening match.

Mumbai Police Gymkhana won the toss and elected to bat first. They put up a strong total of 183/7 before declaring their innings, with Sunil Patil leading the charge with an outstanding century.

Patil played an aggressive knock of 105 runs off just 93 balls, hitting 10 fours and 5 sixes. His attacking innings provided Mumbai Police Gymkhana with the momentum they needed and helped them post a challenging total.

At the other end, Yogesh Shinde played a patient and steady innings, scoring 43 runs from 122 balls with the help of five fours. His contribution provided valuable support as Mumbai Police Gymkhana built their total.

With 184 runs to chase, Apollo Cricket Club began their innings looking to put up a strong response. However, Mumbai Police Gymkhana’s bowling attack had other plans.

Nimish Jambhulkar emerged as the star with the ball, delivering a brilliant spell of 10 overs. He claimed six wickets and also bowled three maidens, putting the Apollo Cricket Club batting lineup under immense pressure.

Despite their efforts, Apollo Cricket Club could manage only 102/8 by the end of their innings.

The opening game of the Dr H. D. Kanga League 2026 therefore belonged to Mumbai Police Gymkhana, with Sunil Patil’s explosive century setting up the innings before Nimish Jambhulkar’s six-wicket haul made the difference with the ball.

It was a strong individual performance from both players and an exciting start to the 2026 Kanga League at Azad Maidan.
