Mayur Mangela’s Five-Fer helps Viva Supermarket cruise to the finals of ‘d’ Division Times Shield’22

On May 17, Viva Supermarket took on Cipla Ltd. in the semi-final of ‘D’ Division Times Shield. Viva Supermarket won the toss and elected to field at Western Railway cricket ground in Mumbai.

Invited to bat first, Cipla were bowled out cheaply for 98 in 18.5 overs. Daljit Thaker top scored with 28 runs off 36 balls but kept losing partners at regular intervals. On the other hand, Viva Supermarket had an extraordinary outing with the ball. Mayur Mangela and Bharat Patil were the wreckers-in-chief as they scalped 5-21 and 4-14 respectively in four overs.

In reply, Viva Supermarket made lightwork of the chase as they completed the formalities in 14.2 overs with six wickets in hand. Shikhar Thakur led the run chase with a run a ball 27. Umesh Gurjar too played his part as he scored 24 runs off 17 balls. On the other hand, Cipla’s Umar Khan was the pick of the bowlers as he claimed 2-25 in four overs.

Viva Supermarket beat Cipla Ltd. by six wickets to cruise to the finals of ‘D’ Division Times Shield.

Cricket is a sport that Juili picked up right from her childhood days. Her journey from playing with the boys in the compound walls to practising under the able aegis of Jonty Rhodes has been a spectacular one.
She was a part of Mumbai Women’s U-19 and U-23 probables during her four-year stint at the MCA. As a middle order bat and a part time medium pace bowler, she also represented Mumbai University at All-India University Women’s Cricket for two years.

In the quest of further education, she discontinued with the sport. Currently she is pursuing her Ph.D in Finance from IIT Bombay’s School of Management.
