Gautam Waghela & all-rounder Aayush Zimare pave the way for Vijay Merchant XI in the U19 Mahindra Shield Tournament’19
Vijay Merchant XI after being put to bat first at MCA, Kandivali notched up an impressive total of 302/10 in 90.5 overs. Left-handed opener Gautam Waghela flourished at the top of the order scoring a solid looking 95 off 153 balls. It was a strokeful innings laced with 14 boundaries while he also showed good temperament towards the fast bowlers. All-rounder Aayush Zimare at no.6 also contributed with a crucial 64 off 132 balls (7 fours, 1 six) which pushed the team towards a total of 302/10 in 90.5 overs. From the bowlers, left arm spinner Aakash Sharma with 4/45 in 11.3 overs was the pick of the lot.
Khandu Ragnekar XI in reply had their top order batsman Shashvat J and Aadithyan Dev chipping in with 40’s but the batsman below them could not capitalize getting all out for 191 runs in 47.5 overs. It was a collective effort by the bowlers as Jai Choughule (3//46), Aayush Zimare (3/36), Om Padhiyar (2/23) and Umar Khan (2/24) all contributed with wickets.
Vijay Merchant XI in the 2nd innings declared their innings at 171/6 giving a target of 283 runs to which Khandu Ragnekar XI scored 197/4 in reply batting for 61 overs before the end of the game’s play where Vijay Merchant XI were declared winners on the basis of 1st innings lead.
