Coach Corner: Kishore Waghela | Building player confidence is very critical
Kishore Waghela has been in the field of cricket coaching for over five years and has been one of the reputed names in Mumbai cricket. He is associated with Advance Sports and Event Cricket Academy and has guided many players to higher levels like county cricket as well as MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) summer camps.
“I not only work on technical skills but also try to improve their confidence while playing the sport. I ask the players to do various batting drills that help better their shot selection capabilities”, explains Kishore. Providing maximum practice matches to every player is the key to success and Waghela has been extremely proactive in doing this. The practice matches are not just restricted to Mumbai, but the UK cum Mumbai based coach emphasizes on the need to play matches outside of home; in different states and countries.
Kishore has been blessed with the opportunity to be a part of coaching team for Middlesex, United Kingdom. The players from U-15 team; Charanvir Singh and Kushal Patel have made their way to Middlesex County team and have been performing well for their team. Waghela, himself has played for Middlesex for the last four years and has been in UK for 15 years. He has played several leagues in Mumbai like Times Shield and Kanga League, just to name a few.
As a player, Waghela is a right arm medium pace bowler and a no.3 batsman. These attributes make him the perfect fit to squeeze in any team outfit. Kishore has been playing the sport for over 15 years and has been enjoying the game, both as a player as well as a coach. He is played for Breach Candy hospital for more than five years and for Route SMS for close to six years. “My best score for Breach Candy was 135 n.o. against Dalvi Motors and best bowling figures came against Nair hospital (seven wickets). Kishore scored a mind blowing century (101 not out off 33 balls) for Route SMS against Johnson and Johnson. “One of my best moments in life was playing for Bangkok International”, reminisces Kishore. Cricketing legends like Sanath Jayasuriya, Rangana Herath, MS Dhoni and Vijay Dahiya were a part of the tournament.
Kishore Waghela has been doing a wonderful job towards the development of the sport and let us hope that he continues to shine for India abroad.
