Akshay Bhowad shines with 65* & 5-fer for Maskati Cricket Club

Maskati Cricket Club took on Vile Parle Sports Club on January 26 during the Mumbai Junior Shield 2022-23. Maskati Cricket Club won the toss and elected to field at Azad Maidan on January 26.

Put into bat first, Vile Parle Sports Club were bowled out for 171 in 43 overs. Opening batter Nishant Furia top-scored with 39 off 52, including five boundaries, for Vile Parle Sports Club. For Maskati Cricket Club, Akshay Bhowad wreaked havoc with the ball, claiming 30/5 in nine overs, including two maidens.

In reply, Maskati Cricket Club completed the formalities in 38.2 overs and won the match by six wickets. Akshay Bhowad was at the helm of the run chase with an undefeated 65 off 83 that saw seven hits to the fence and two over it. For Vile Parle Sports Club, Mihir Pasad and Shreyansh Veera were the most successful bowlers, with two wickets apiece.

Cricket is a sport that Juili picked up right from her childhood days. Her journey from playing with the boys in the compound walls to practising under the able aegis of Jonty Rhodes has been a spectacular one.
She was a part of Mumbai Women’s U-19 and U-23 probables during her four-year stint at the MCA. As a middle order bat and a part time medium pace bowler, she also represented Mumbai University at All-India University Women’s Cricket for two years.

In the quest of further education, she discontinued with the sport. Currently she is pursuing her Ph.D in Finance from IIT Bombay’s School of Management.
