Mumbai cricket has always been known for its fierce competitiveness, discipline and winning mentality. Thriving in this demanding environment requires more than just talent; it takes dedication, consistency and the ability to build teams that perform under pressure. Few understand this culture better than Sangam Lad, a respected figure who has been part of an incredible journey of 59 titles as a captain and coach.

Known for his contribution to Mumbai’s competitive cricketing circuit, Sangam Lad has played an instrumental role in shaping players and building winning teams. His coaching journey has been defined by a simple philosophy: work hard, stay hungry and never compromise on the spirit of the game.

His latest achievement came in the MCA Corporate Trophy B Division, where Chowgule Sports Club registered a remarkable 281/3 in 20 overs against Mumbai Police Cricket Team.
The innings witnessed two outstanding individual performances, with Shashwat Pathak scoring an unbeaten 128 off just 52 deliveries, while Ajit Pahalwan smashed 110 off 50 balls. Witnessing two centuries in a single T20 match was a surreal experience for Lad, who takes immense pride in seeing his players deliver on the big stage.

However, this performance was not an isolated achievement.

Over the last four years, teams under Lad’s guidance have produced several noteworthy batting records across Mumbai cricket tournaments.

His club, Our Own Club, registered 510/7 in 45 overs, the highest score in a Kanga League knockout match. Team Chowgule also created history with 292/3 in 20 overs, recording the highest score in Shipping Shield corporate tournaments. Adding to these achievements, Our Own Club posted 259/6 in 20 overs, the highest score in the Seth Gordhandas Tournament.

These performances reflect the batting strength, preparation and collective effort that have become an important part of Lad’s coaching journey. For him, records are not merely numbers on a scoreboard but a reflection of the hard work put in by players and the environment created within a team.

Lad’s experience extends beyond the boundary ropes. Having witnessed Mumbai’s unique ‘Khadoos’ cricket culture closely, he understands what it takes to survive and succeed in one of India’s most competitive cricketing environments.
