Blasters cruise to six-wicket victory In Women’s President Cup
Mumbai, February 10: Mumbai Blasters cruised to a fluent 6-wicket win against Mumbai Unicorns in a third round match of the Mumbai Cricket Association organized President Cup women’s T20 cricket tournament, played at the Wankhede Stadium, Churchgate.
Deciding to bat first Mumbai Unicorns batswomen failed to get going and were dismissed for just 89 runs in 19.3 overs. Disciplined bowling performance from Mumbai Blasters off-spinners Janhvi Kate who claimed 3 wickets for 9 runs and Himja Patil who took 2 wickets for 13 runs restricted the opposition to a low total.
Later, steady batting from Tanisha Gaikwad 28 runs and Hurley Gala 20 runs ensured Mumbai Blasters surpassed the winning target reaching a total of 93 for 4 wickets in 17.2 overs.
In the second match, Mumbai Thunders clinched their third consecutive win defeating Mumbai Warriors by 20 runs. A solid batting effort from Simran Shaikh who top-scored with 74 runs propelled Mumbai Thunders to a fighting total of 141 for 5 wickets from their 20 overs. Simran’s 54-ball innings was studded with 12 hits to the boundary ropes and a solitary six. Humaria Kazi added 25 runs to the scoreboard. Kshama Patekar 2 for 23 and Jagravi Pawar 2 for 30 were the two impressive Mumbai Warriors bowlers.
In response, Mumbai Warriors managed to reach 121 for 8 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. Sharvi Save 26 runs, Saloni Kushte 24 runs and Mansi Patil 20 runs tried to keep Warriors in the chase, but they fell short of the target. Niyati Jagtap claimed 3 wickets for 19 runs which helped secure their 20 runs victory.
Brief scores: Mumbai Unicorns 89 all out, 19.3 overs (Janhvi Kate 3/9, Himja Patil 2/13) lost to Mumbai Blasters 93 for 4 wickets, 17.2 overs (Tanisha Gaikwad28, Hurley Gala 20; Samruddi Gaikwad 2/12). Result: Mumbai Blasters won by 6 wickets.
Mumbai Thunders 141 for 5 wickets, 20 overs (Simran Shaikh 74 (54-balls, 12x4s, 1x6s), Humaria Kazi 25; Kshama Patekar 2/23, Jagravi Pawar 2/30) beat Mumbai Warriors 121 for 8 wickets, 20 overs (Sharvi Save 26, Saloni Kushte 24, Mansi Patil 20; Niyati Jagtap 3/19). Result: Mumbai Thunders won by 20 runs.
