Mumbai’s Own Cricket Awards- Felicitation of the College Category Awards

In all its glory, Mumbai’s Own Cricket Awards was concluded successfully on 20th Feburuary evening at the Mithibai College. Many awardees from the 1st Edition are today playing in IPL and National team and we certainly wish and hope the 2nd Edition will also have many faces which will be making waves in 2020. The 2nd Edition Awards Function had invitees ranging from experienced BCCI umpires to coaches, from School Principals to State as well as National level cricketers gracing the awards function adding the silver lining to the event.

The Jury which consisted of Umesh Patwal (Nepal National Team Batting Consultant), Sangeeta Kamat (MCA Women’s Selector) and Ajay Kadam (Former MCA Selector and BCCI Level 1 Coach) who brainstormed their way to decide the winners across 6 categories.

Let’s take a look at the Winners of the College Category-

BEST BATSMAN IN COLLEGE CATEGORY-

Winner- BHUPEN LALWANI   (Winner of College Category)

As he said on the stage while accepting the award- “I have really worked hard to reach the stage at which I am playing and there is certainly no short cut for success”& we can’t agree more to accept that Bhupen has toiled hard to reach where he has. Bhupen amassed 1040 runs in 19 Innings including 7 tons in last 4 months to become one of the best Mumbai batsman at present in the U23 Category. He also played for Mumbai university in All India Inter University Level while he was the top scorer in the “Under-23 Shalini Bhalekar Trophy 2018-2019” with 432 runs at an envious batting average & a best score of 191.

In the U23 COL. C.K. NAYUDU TROPHY 2018-2019 (State Level Tournament) he scored a total of 608 runs in 9 Matches (14 innings) which had 3 tons with a best score of 167. Bhupen was in top 6 in BCCI’s Ranking of highest centuries List in U23 Players in India and Top (highest) from the Mumbai Team. His consistent run scoring spree also got him selected in the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad this year.

1st Runner up- Pragnesh Kanpillewar from Rizvi College Team – 1st Runner up -Total = 1221 runs in 24 innings (Including 2 double centuries, 5 centuries and 3 half centuries)

2nd Runner up- Arman Jaffer from Rizvi College Team- 2nd Runner up- Total = 790 runs in 12 Innings (one triple century, 1 Century and 3 half centuries)

BEST BOWLER –

WINNER-Arjun Tendulkar-(From Dhirubhai Ambani College Team) with a total of 47 wkts in 20 Innings and 236 runs in 14 Innings.

Arjun was the top wicket-taker in Under-19 Vinoo Mankad Trophy (State level tournament) where he bagged 15 Wkts in 8 Matches (Best 5/30 against Gujarat) and 29 runs in 3 Matches (Best 18 runs against Karnataka)

Arjun was also the 2nd highest wicket-taker in “Under-19 K.C. Mahindra Shield Selection Tournament 2018-2019 “where he took 10 Wkts in 3 Innings. Apart from that Arjun was the 3rd bowler in Top Wicket-takers in “Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy 2018-2019”(State level tournament) from Mumbai U19 Team with a total of 22 wkts in 9 innings.

1st Runner up- Atharva Ankolekar (From Rizvi College Team) – 1st Runner up total of 40 Wkts in 23 innings along with 566 runs in 18 Innings

2nd Runner up-  Atharva Poojari (From Thakur College Team) with a total of 37 wkts in 19 innings and 170 runs in 12 Innings

Most Popular Player Award- Siddharth Mhatre from Ramniranjan Jhunjhunwala College (Ghatkopar West) Team

Votes – 522 Votes

Siddarth won the most popular award in the college category amassing a total of 522 votes surpassing his contemparies. Siddarth scored 230 runs in 4 innings at an average of 57.50 and strike rate of 76.41 in the Mahindra Shield which included a crucial ton in the virtual finals.
