Played at the DY Patil University Ground, it was a big match between two really talented teams namely Western Railway (DY 20) & BPCA (DY 20) where in Western Railway skipper Saurav won the toss and elected to bowl first since they have a quality bowling attack to restrict the opposition to a low total.
Their decision to bowl first was spot on as they allowed BPCL to only score a meagre 120/7 in 20 overs which is always a chaseable score in a T20 match. Opener Bhavin Thakkar with 49 and experienced Abhishek Nayar at the middle order top scored with 30runs while as many as 8batsman struggled to convert their scores in two digits. From Western Railway, Medium Pacer Chintan Gaja with 3/16 in 4overs was the pick of the bowlers while the rest of the bowlers chipped in with a wicket each making it a collectively tight bowling perfomance.
Chasing just 121 in a T20 match and when you a T20 specialist and RCB’s player Asad Pathan opening the innings, there are very less chances of losing the match. Right-handed Asad literally took on the bowlers and it was an absolute carnage as he went on to score an electrifying 106* off just 54balls. Asad smashed 11fours and 8sixes to lighten up the ground in every corner and stamping his presence on how destructive he can be. Pathan’s partner Mrunal Deodhar gave him a silent support remaining 14*and providing his partner maximum strike in an unbeaten partnership of 126. Western Railway won the match by 10wkts and 7.5 overs to spare in a whitewash win where in Asad Pathan stood out in the match with his thumping hundred.
