The Resilient Naman Jhawar Selected for U19 Mumbai Summer Camp

The Mumbai Cricket Association has announced its Under 19 team for the upcoming summer camp, and the talented Naman Jhawar finds his name among the selected players. With a string of impressive performances in various under 19 domestic tournaments, it was no surprise that Naman caught the selectors’ attention. Hailing from R A Poddar College in Matunga, Naman Jhawar is a player poised to make waves in the upcoming U19 Mumbai Summer Camp.

A wicketkeeper-batsman, Naman has consistently excelled both with the bat and behind the stumps. His notable performances include standout displays in MCA U19 Naren Tamhane Summer Camp Cricket Tournament and in the final of the MCA U19 Bhama Tournament.

Representing MIG in the U19 Bhama Cup final, Naman showcased his prowess, particularly in the final against Gamdevi Cricketers. His stellar knock of 75 runs off 54 balls in the final, coupled with three crucial catches and two stumpings, played a pivotal role in his team’s victory. His stellar performances earned him the coveted title of Man of the Match in the final, where he received the award from cricketing legend Chaminda Vaas. He was the highest run scorer of selection tournament- 154 runs in 3 innings.

Another remarkable innings came in the semifinal of the MCA U19 Naren Tamhane Summer Camp Cricket Tournament, where Naman notched an outstanding century against Sainath SC. Opening the batting for Jolly Gymkhana, his innings of 140 runs off 152 balls propelled his team to a formidable total of 311 runs in the first innings. Amidst a match where no other player managed to surpass the 40-run mark, Naman’s century stood out as a testament to his talent and determination.

However, Naman acknowledges that his success is not solely his own; he credits his guru coach, Mahesh Yetkar sir, for his guidance and support. A Level 2 BCCI Coach and a respected figure at the Mumbai Police, Coach Yetkar’s vast experience, including 15 years of international coaching in Antwerp, Belgium, and Ghana, has played a crucial role in Naman’s development. Currently representing Parel Sporting Club, which recently earned promotion to the A division under Coach Mahesh Yetkar sir’s leadership, Naman is poised to make a significant impact in the U19 Mumbai Summer Camp and beyond.
