Subodh Chhabbria and Pratik Mayekar Win A Low Scoring Nail Bitter For Pandurangwadi In the Inaugural President’s Cup
The Men’s Inaugural President’s Cup 2023 was underway on the 11th of February 2023. The tournament was organised across all club divisions to provide opportunities for players in the metropolitan’s vicinity. Played at Karnataka SC in the Cross maidan, Pandurangwai CC and Rajasthan SC competed in a thrilling low scoring game as the former managed to prevail with a thin margin over its competitor.
After winning the toss, Rajasthan SC elected to chase as Pandurangwadi padded up but their innings lasted for just 17.1 overs as they were bowled out for just 88 runs on board. Roshan Pal high-scored with 29 runs as there minor contributions. It was safe to say, the bowler’s enjoyed their time with the ball. Ganesh Alwe claimed 3 wickets in 4 overs as Pratik Yadav, Prasad Singote and Yash Kripal picked up 2 wicket each. With a splendid group effort, Rajasthan SC had a massive advantage by end of the first innings.
Rajasthan SC set out to chase 89 in 20 overs but the Pandurangwadi bowler’s were committed to turn the tides their way. As the run chase began, Rajsthan SC lost timely wickets as half the side was down for 60 by the 12th over but with just 29 runs more to get, the game was still tilted towards them. Soon the Pandurangwadi were about to turn the game upside down. Subodh Chhabria and Pratik Mayekar were brought into the attack later in the game. Just when things were looking good for Rajasthan, Chhabria and Mayekar started taking wickets one by one in the second half of the run chase. Ultimately, Rajasthan SC lost their spare 5 wickets for just 15 runs as they were bowled out for 75 in the 17th over.
The Pandurangwadi bowlers managed to keep things tight throughout despite the batters scoring at a decent rate. Pratik Mayekar’s 2 overs created carnage as he picked up 3 wickets and gave away just 3 runs at a crucial stage but the pick of the bowlers was the leggie Subodh Chhabria who claimed 4 wickets in 3 overs conceding just 5 runs. Apart from them, Jitesh Tank, Atul Chavan and Nayan Jadhav bowled tight spells to contain the batsmen.
Ultimately, Pandurangwadi won a low scoring thriller by just 13 runs.
