Sarfaraz Khan (130) & Kevin Almeida (136) power DY Patil ‘B’ to a thumping win in the Times Cricket Shield ‘17
Played between two powerful teams namely DY Patil “B” and Western Railway Sports Association at the Western Railways Ground at Mahalaxmi, Mumbai. An exciting competition was bound to happen as both the teams have exciting players who can give a really strong fight. DY Patil who have a fantastic batting line up elected to bat first after winning the toss.
Batting first, DY Patil did felt some early jitters as their opener Subramanian and in-form Shashank got out on 0 & 3 along with Hardik at no.4 on 1run. However, opener Kevin on the other hand kept on playing with elegance. Kevin gathered the DY innings back out of trouble scoring a classy 130 off 204balls (20fours, 1six). Kevin was really playing some good shots and seems to be getting back into the groove while on the other hand Sarfaraz Khan who came at no.5 went on to make a timely 130 off just 140 deliveries (22fours). The way sarfaraz is playing, he is certainly looking all set to make a comeback into the domestic team. Sarfaraz displayed a wide array of shots and attacked the bowlers with confidence stitching an impressive 245run stand with opener Kevin. Siddarth Chitnis at the lower middle order also chipped in with a half century taking the team total to a healthy 408 in 89.5 overs. Rahul Thakkur and Hardik Rathod bowled well taking 5 & 4wkts respectively. On the other hand, Western Railways were bundled out for 221runs with the help of Pravin Tambe’s 4/50 and Karsh’s 3wkts which made them receive a follow on.
Western Railways scored 297/10 in their 2nd innings and it was possible only because of Prasad Pawar’s fighting 153* off 174balls (21fours,1six). Prasad kept on batting well despite the wickets falling from the other end. This time, Vineet Sinha was the pick of the bowlers with 4/58 and chitins taking 3wkts. Western Railway with a lead gave a target of just 111runs which DY Patil chased down successfully in mere 18.3 overs and won the match by 6wkts. It was a great match where in Sarfaraz, Kevin and Prasad’s ton remained the highlight performance of the match.
