Prolific opener Charu Todankar smashes a stunning 132 with 2wkts to help Active Sports W.C.A win the finals of U/16 Girl’s Future Star Trophy ‘18
Played at the Western Railway Cricket Ground at Cross Maidan, it was the all important finale between Salgaonkar Sports Club Thane & Active Sports Women’s Cricket Academy where in both the teams have fought their way hard to reach this stage. Active Sports WCA won the toss and elected to bat first considering their strong batting line and especially their openers.
Their decision to bat first was completely spot on as they amassed 261runs for the loss of 8wkts in just 30 overs which is anyday a great score to defend. If major credit has to be given for such a big total, it has to be their consistent opener Charu Todankar who scored an entertaining 132 off mere 80deliveries which included 12fours and 7sixes to enthrall his team mates and the spectators alike. Delivering in high pressure finals is always difficult and it tests the character of a player’s skills and Charu delivered successfully in such intense finals game taking the game away from the opposition with her attacking batting. Charu who has been scoring runs throughout the tournament finally converted her starts into a big score where she played at a strike rate of 165.00. Apart from her Samiksha Tare(36) and Riddhi Singh(36) gave crucial contributions with their quick 30’s. Aditi Surve was fantastic with the ball being the pick of the bowlers taking 5/33 in 6overs. Aditi was really impressive bowling in the right areas while also giving crucial breakthroughs.
Defending a total of 262, Active Sports WCA successfully restricted SSCT to just 149runs where in opener Sanika Chalke top scored with a fighting 67 off 55balls. From Active Sports, Jahnavi Jawale was the pick of the pick of the bowlers taking 4/21 in 6overs(2maidens) while all-rounder Charu also chipped in with 2wkts. Active Sports WCA won the finals by 112runs and Charu Todankar was rightly declared ‘man of the match.
It was a match dominated by Active Sports WCA right from the start and it was surely a great collective team effort throughout the series which helped them lift the trophy. Aditi’s bowling in the finals was also quite commendable though her team lost the match.
