Our Own Club’s 259 in 20 overs creates another record; beat Gomantak Daiwadnya CC by 129 runs

Riding on power-packed half centuries from Sushant Kadam and Prakash Aswani, Our Own Club handed a crushing 129-run defeat to Gomantak Daiwadnya Cricket Club on January 6 in the Seth Gowardhan Tournament 2023-24.

Batting first at Khar Gymkhana, Our Own Club posted a mammoth 259/6 in 20 overs. Left-handed batter Kadam (79 runs off 33 balls; 4s: 3 and 6s: 8) and captain Aswani (61 runs off 25 balls; 4s: 6 and 6s: 4) smashed the Gomantak Daiwadya CC’s bowlers all around the park with their impactful strokeplay. The opening pair of Nishant Kambli (45 runs off 23 balls; 4s: 4 and 6s: 3) and Siddharth Matani (31 runs off 26 balls; 4s: 4) provided a solid start stitching a 76-run partnership in just 6.3 overs.

Chasing a daunting 260 for a win, Gomatak Daiwadnya CC were restricted to a modest 130/6 in 20 overs. Besides the opening batter Bharat Gagwani (31 runs off 40 balls; 4s: 5) and middle order batter Niraj Singh (42 runs off 42 balls; 4s: 3 and 6s: 3), none of the batters of Gomantak Daiwadnya CC got going. Earlier in the day, Singh claimed 3/40 in two overs. Our Own Club’s bowling led by Krish Trivedi (2/30) put up a splendid show to defend the target comfortably.

Our Own Club, which is a renowned team in Mumbai, has set a new record in Mumbai’s club cricket by scoring 259 in 20 overs. In 2022, this team had created history by piling up 510 in 45 overs against Indian Gymkhana in a knock-out match of the Kanga League. In that game, Our Own Club’s Vikas Jaiswal had plundered 279, which is the highest individual score in the tournament.
