KSG Strikers locked horns with KSG Champs in the KSG 40-40 Cup 2022-23. Played at Payyade Cricket Ground, Strikers won the toss and elected to bat first in the finals. The tournament is created for the Kapol samaj with an aim to provide opportunity for everyone to play the beautiful game of cricket. 17 batters and more than 10 bowlers can bowl in one inning.
Strikers found themselves in trouble in the early stages of the game. Despite Akash Bhuta’s 39 ball 31, Strikers were struggling at 82 for 7 in the 21st over itself. A late fight down the order saw them make an emphatic comeback in the game. After the 21st over, the tables turned upside down as Harshit Goradia (26 off 35) formed a crucial partnership with Karan Vora (40 off 43) for the 8th wicket of 71 runs lighting a resurgent fightback.
Soon followed destructive cameos from Sitanshu Parekh and Madhav Valia propelled the target to 253 as they were bowled out in the final over. Sitanshu and Madhav played 17 balls each but the former hammered 36 and the latter 43. Their enigmatic brough the Strikers back in the game.
After losing the momentum, KSG Champs were looking to chase down the competitive total. Opener Maulik Mehta contributed 35 off 19 balls but he was the only batsmen to pass the 25 run mark. The Champs displayed a dismal batting performance as the Strikers restricted them to just 198 in the 35th. A crucial spell by Nihar Modi saw the Strikers win the finals after a rocky start. Modi claimed 5 wickets in his 6 overs and was announced as the Man of the Match for his spirited spell.
