KP’s 114 falls flat as Surendra Malviya (92*) & Prasad Patil’s 116* steer Western Railways to the semis in the Times Shield’18
Into the all important quarters of the Times Shield B Div, Tata Sports Club took on Western Railways on their homeground where they were made to bat first by the Western Railway skipper.
The decision was indeed a wise one as the in-form batting line up of Tata Sports Club collapsed for 119 runs in their 1st innings. Smit Ghosh and Kunal Karamchandani were the primary destroyers taking 4 wkts each. Western Railways in reply also were about to suffer a big collapse as the Tata bowlers did not spare the batsman giving a tough fight but it was Surendra Malviya at no.10 changing the fortunes. These are the kind of innings which gets remembered for a long time as he scored a brilliant 82 ball 91* taking the team to 202/10. Surendra smashed 10 fours and 5 sixes at no.10 much to the amazement of the opposition.
Tata SC gave a fightback in the 2nd innings with the in-form Kaustub Pawar scoring a fighting 114 off 175 balls. The rest of the batsman batted around him as they reached a total of 267/9 and a lead of 186 runs. Western Railways chased down the score in just 38.2 overs and won the match by 8 wkts thanks to wicket keeper batsman Prasad Patil’s fluent 116*(122b, 18 fours & a six). Prasad opening the innings wasted no time as he ensured his team reached the semi-finals berth.
