Karan Sonavale’s efforts go in vain as ICICI lose to Kathiwada by 8 runs
The fifth and sixth position match of Automotive Cricket League was played on Saturday between ICICI Bank and Kathiwada at MIG, Mumbai. Batting first, Kathiwada posted a daunting 190-5 in 20 overs, thanks to Ankit Chopra (43) and Siddharth Kadam (60). After losing opening bat Kamran Ahmed for a duck, his partner Vishal Shah (30) provided stability at the top. ICICI bowlers bowled well in patches however were unable to contain Kathiwada. Jitesh Purabia struck 2-31 in his two overs with Harshad Gharat and Karan Sonavale picking up one each.
In reply, ICICI gave a tough fight scoring 182-7 in 20 overs, losing just by eight runs. Opening batsman Karan Sonavale was the star performer as he smashed a valiant 82 off 51 balls. Sonavale partnered well with Jitesh Purabia (36) giving his team a good chance of winning. However Kathiwada’s disciplined bowling and handling of pressure situation with absolute calmness got them through. Nirav Bheda was the pick of the bowlers for Kathiwada as he scalped 2-27 in his three overs.
