Gurunanak Dev Univ. Amritsar are the champion of Woman’s University Tournament, Mumbai are runner up
The West Zone and All India University Woman’s Cricket tournament 2015 – 2016 under the auspicious of A.I.U. New Delhi & Mumbai Cricket Association Organized by University of Mumbai and Rizvi College was held between 8th December to 21st December 2015.
The tournament concluded with two important matches. One for the position of 3rd and 4th and the other for the ultimate winner and the runners up.
Match for 3rd and 4th position was played between VBSPU – Purvanchal and M.D.U. Rohtak at the P.J. Hindu Gymkhana:
This match turned out to be an one sided affair. Purvanchal batting first could manage to score 131 for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 40 overs. Sarita Yadav top scored with 33. Minali Yadav of Rohtak took 3 wickets for 10 runs.
In reply, riding on a fine knock of Shital Rana who scored a brisk 52 not out and Renu Bharadwaj who scored 40 runs, M.D.U. Rohtak chased down the target only in the 25 th over loosing only one wicket. Thus winning by 9 wickets and 15 overs to spare.
Match for the first place was between Mumbai University and Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar.
The strong batting line up of Gurunanak was too much to handle for Mumbai. Batting first Gurunanak, Amritsar compiled a decent 185 for 6 in their 40 overs. Neelam Bisht was the star for Amritsar as she sent Mumbai bowlers on a leather hunt by scoring 79 not out. She was well supported by Nikita Chouhan (41) and Parveen Khan (32). For the Mumbai team Mughda Joshi took 2 wickets for 46 runs.
Mumbai’s chase got to decent start but they kept loosing wickets at regular interval and that hurt Mumbai university in the end. They gave a good fight but were all out for 140 runs in 35 overs, thus loosing by 45 runs. Mughda shone with the bat too, scoring 42 runs while Bhakti Tamore scored 41. Parveen Khan took 2 wickets for 21 runs.
It was a great and successful event organized by Mumbai University in collaboration with the Rizvi college of Arts, Science and Commerce, Bandra Mumbai encouraging women cricket.
