In probably one of the most awaited matches of the Purshottam Shield, two of the strongest and most powerful A Division Clubs took on each other at the iconic DY Patil ground in Nerul. After being put to bat first, DY Patil posted a total of 319/6 in 70 overs powered by a brilliant 181 run stand between opener Sumit Ghadigaonkar and no.3 batsman Srujan Athawale. Sumit scored a handsome knock of 80 runs in 111 balls while it was Srujan top scoring for the team hitting a fluent 109 in 113 balls (9 fours, 7 sixes). At the middle order, it was their reliable Siddarth Chitnis (60) & Subramanian Doraiswamy (42*) providing the finishing touch to DY Patil’s innings. From the bowlers, spinner Vinit Dhulap with 3/81 was the pick of the lot.
MIG who boast of an equally good batting line up were reduced to 205 runs all out on DY’s den spinners Pravin Tambe and Karsh Kothari proved quite heavy on the batters. The amazing combination of veteran Tambe (3/58) with his right arm leg break and the young Karsh Kothari (3/39) with his left arm spin once again worked for DY Patil team as they took 6 wkts between themselves. For MIG, Gaurav Jathar who has been in excellent form this season continued his form with a yet another half century scoring 71 off 97 balls.
