In their second knockout encounter, this time against Rajdhani College, College of Vocational Studies (CVS) produced yet another power packed performance to edge out their opponents by 74 runs and keep their hopes alive to reach the group stage of the tournament.
Played at SGGSCC Ground, Rajdhani College won the toss and opted to field first on a sunny day. CVS were off to an excellent start with openers Saurabh Negi (31) and Rishi Kalkal (58) scoring 68 runs in just 13.2 overs. Himanshu Sharma (70*) walked in after the fall of Saurabh Negi and along with Rishi Kalkal took the score past 150. Rishi Kalkal was dismissed with the scoreboard reading 150.
Just when the acceleration was required, CVS batsmen could not live up to the task and lost wickets in a heap. As the ball was lost, innings eventually ended for 219 runs in 38 overs. Apart from 3 run outs towards the end, Sanjeev picked up four wickets for Rajdhani College.
In reply, Rajdhani College lost opener Deepak very early in the innings but Rishabh (31) and Akash (41) stitched together a partnership of 74 runs for the second wicket. At the score of 80, when Rishabh went back, the innings went off track completely. Only Vinmar could score 23 towards the end but rest all other batsmen succumbed to the pressure created by CVS bowlers led by Kartik Sindhu (4 wickets) and Aryan Mishra (2 wickets).
With this loss, Rajdhani College are out the tournament while CVS have everything to play for in their upcoming match.
