There was a time when players hanged their boots after a particular age (around 35 years) because it was a almost a benchmark sort of assumption for a player to give it up at that age. Not so these days. Today cricket has gone to new heights with players age not a bar but his ability to play, enthusiasm and energy has given the so called veterans chance to come back and play. This was the case with Bhinmal Senior league which began on April 6th 2015. Organised by Bhinmal Sports Association, the tournament was a ideal platform for all the so called seniors to prove that they have enough left in them. Four teams took part (Ratnakar Slammers, BVardhan warriors, Team Bhinmal and Sanghvi Smashers took part) in the 20 overs format brought the best amongst all of the players.
Speaking to the president of Bhinmal Sports Association, Mr. Shailesh Sanghvi who said the idea was to give the seniors members a chance to play again and was buoyed by the enthusiasm of 35 plus age players who played a exhibition match in Feb 2015. The average age is around 40 years but by no means they looked veterans. The best part of the tournament was the Contribution of the sponsors with Neumec group as the Title sponsors and with various co-sponsors and various other sponsors sponsoring the various individual awards and gifts.
Another notable feature of the event was the crowd who thronged in during various league matches. They all came and cheered their team with energy which helped in boosting the morale of the players.
The players from all the teams gave in their best, their agility to field, running between the wickets and most importantly never looked to give it up in the hot sun, and with the scores always in three figure mark they have proved age is not a barrier to play, its their passion which kept them going.
Kudos to the entire Bhinmal Sports Association committee members who have done a fabulous job in organising the tournament, it was the first step towards what looks like an on going affair in the coming times. Wishing the entire committee of Bhinmal Sports Association all the very best in the coming times.
Two teams to make it to the first ever Bhinmal Senior League cricket were Sanghvi Smashers and Team Bhimani .
