Aakarshit Gomel’s quick 73 and Khizer’s 3/11 in the semis steers Parsee Gymkhana to a win in the 68th Salar Jung Tournament
Hit out or get-out, give your best or rest are certain terms related to semi-finals because semis are always full of pressure where both the teams have to give their best and the one who loses goes out of the tournament. One such match was between Parsee Gymkhana & Islam Gymkhana at the Islam Gymkhana Ground in Mumbai. Islam Gymkhana won the toss & elected to field first as the pitch was tilted slightly towards the bowlers.
Batting first, their right-handed opener Aakarshit Gomel who is in good touch once again scored a quickfire 73* off just 55balls to steer Parsee Gymkhana to a respectable total of 167/5 in 20 overs. Gomel played the anchor’s role playing at a decent strike of 135+ smashing 7boundaries & a six and remaining unbeaten till the end. Apart from him hardly any batsman was able to make much of a difference as Raunaq Sharma with a 17ball 24 was the 2nd highest scorer. From Islam Gymkhana, Jay Dave was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/22 in his 4overs followed by a wicket each for Salman, Harsh & Hitesh kadam.
Chasing 168 at more than 8runs per over, Islam Gymkhana felt the pressure of chasing as they were all out for 130/10 in 19.5 overs. Even though their openers Abdul Aziz (32 off 32) & Mehboob Shaikh(25 off 16) gave a good start but the rest of the batsmen below them could not capitalize . Right-arm leg spinner Khizar Dafedar was the pick of the bowlers with enviable bowling figures of 3/11 in 3 overs followed by a stunning bowling spell of 2/8 in 4 overs by Abhimanyu Vaishistha. Abhimanyu certainly bowled one of the most economical spells of the tournament.
Parsee Gymkhana won the match by 32 runs & the highlight of the match was Aakarshit Gomel’s flashy 73 followed by some good bowling by Khizar and Abhimanyu. Cricketgraph congratulates the whole team for their commendable semis win & also wishes them all the luck for a great finals.
