Vinayak Gupta hit his third double century of his career on March 2 when he smashed a delectable 215 off just 124 balls. Playing for the Golden Eagle Club in the DDCA Cricket League, a 40-over tournament in Delhi, the left handed opening batter achieved the feat against the Ministry of I&B. The southpaw plundered 30 boundaries and three sixes during his entertaining knock.
Vinayak told CricketGraph, “I opened the batting and could feel that the wicket was soft. There was some moisture as well which did not make batting easy. However as the day progressed, the wicket became better. The ball was coming nicely on to the bat. Having already scored a couple of double centuries before, I was expecting to score one again. The opposition had some good medium pacers in their ranks so it was important for me to play each and every ball on its merit.”
Vinayak powered his team to a daunting total of 354 in 40 overs. His knock was a match winning one as his team went on to win the match by a margin of close to 200 runs.
At present, Vinayak, who is a left handed batter and a right arm off spinner is a part of Delhi U-25 team. He was also a part of Delhi U-23 and India U-23. He featured in the Asian Cricket Council Emerging Teams Cup in 2019 playing for India U-23. He played a match against Bangladesh in that tournament and mustered 40 runs off 65 balls, batting in the middle order.
