In the semifinal of Milan Corporate Tournament Plate Division, Nomura captain Kanaiya Patel won the toss and opted to field first. The decision proved to be correct till the time his team was in the field. But all the effort in the field was nullified by some disappointing batting performance as the team failed to chase 134 which by no means is a difficult score to chase in the shortest format of the game.
RMPL opener Abdul Khan struck a sparkling 46 ball 53 with supporting hands from Roger Mackwan’s 16 (12 balls, 2×4) and Srinath Dange’s 20 (19 balls, 1×4) as the team scored 134 runs at the end of 20 overs. Nomura’s Anshul Garg delivered an inspired spell in which he took 3 wicket giving away just 10 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Prateek and Abrez shared a wicket each.
With a good day in the field, Nomura would have fancied their chances of chasing a modest total. But a combined bowling effort from RMPL and slow batting from their batsmen prevented them from winning a match that was theirs to win. Anshul Garg top scored with 35 as rest of the batting fell like nine pins and Nomura ran out of overs and batsmen to cross the line. As many as 7 bowlers were used by RMPL and 6 of them managed a wicket at least. How’s that for teamwork! Skipper Roger and Dinesh More managed a couple of wicket each.
With this, RMPL are through to the finals of the tournament while Nomura’s journey ends here. Abdul R. Khan bagged the man of the match for his excellent innings.
Brief Scores: RMPL: 134 all out in 20 overs (Khan 53, Dange 20, Garg 3/10)
Nomura: 96/8 in 20 overs (Garg 35, Roger 2/23, More 2/13)
