Cosmopolitan Shield Updates: Padmanubhan, Vikram, Siddhesh smash solid 50’s while Kunal bags 5wkts to take their teams to commanding wins
The good season of cricket continues with December always being a peak month where intense cricket is played in almost every ground and tournament of Mumbai. In the match which was held at MB Union(Azad Maidan) between Khandala CC and Young Maharashtra CC, young Maharashtra won the toss and elected to bat first. Batting first, the openers fell early but it was the consistent Padmanubhan Mudaliar at no. who resurrected the innings back with his attacking 72 off just 80balls (5fours, 3sixes). Mudaliar brought his team back into the game while he also got a good partner at no.4 in Vikram Yadav who smashed an aggressive 54 off just 46deliveries(4fours, 3sixes). Both the batsman really played well, smashed some good cricketing shots and stitched a crucial partnership. Vinay Kumar with 4wkts and Avinash Shetty with 3wkts were the pick of the bowlers. In a thriller of chase, Khandala CC fought hard but fell just 1run short of winning the game. Roneet Thakkur top scored with 56 while all-rounder Padmanubhan chipped in with 2wkts along with Praful Patil and Vikrant Khanvilkar who took 2 crucial wickets.
In the other match between Esplanade Liberals and Mazgaon Cricket Club at Western Railways, Cross Maidan, winning the toss, esplanade made Mazgaon CC to bat first. Batting first, Mazgaon CC were at one point struggling at 24/4 but it was their middle order bat Siddhesh Gawand who scored a match saving 86 off 103balls. Siddhesh who smashed just 5fours worked really hard and did good running between the wickets helping his team reach 222/9 in 44 overs. Defending a total of 245, left arm spinner Kunal Thorat came up with match winning bowling spell of 5/13 in 7.5 overs restricting Esplanade CC to just 97runs. Kunal bowled really well in the right line & length to trouble the batsman which helped his team win by 147runs.
