Rahul Chavarkar’s all-round brilliance helps Abbott win the finals of the Milan T20 Tournament
Held at Karnataka Cricket Ground in Mumbai, it was the all important finals of the tournament between Akumentis and Abbott healthcare. Abbott won the toss and elected to field first as there was some due and the track looked good to bowl first.
Their decision to bowl first was quite spot on as they restricted Akumentis Sports club to just 127/9 in 20 overs which is 9 out of 10 times chaseable. Even in this low scoring match they had their opener Aatish Gholtkar who chipped in with a solid looking 53ball 55 but he lacked support from the other end. The running between the wickets also appeared to be sloppy as there were as many as 4run outs in the Akumentis batting line up. Right arm fast bowler Rahul Chavarkar was the pick of the bowlers taking 2/26 followed by a wicket each for Nilesh Gadekar & Sandesh Agre.
Chasing 130 is a cakewalk most of the times but Akumentis bowlers did gave a tough fight. Opener Rehman Shaikh scored a solid 45 off 42balls but the rest of the batsman at the top could not fire. In fact at one point 36runs were needed in the last 4 overs and it was again Rahul Chavarkar who changed the script of the match as he came and smashed 23runs in the 18th over completely turning the game in Abbott’s favor. Eventually Abbott won the match with Rahul remaining unbeaten on 35* off just 20balls (2fours, 2sixes).
Abbott won the finals by 5wkts and 5balls to spare & Rahul Chavarkar was declared ‘man of the match’ for his all-round perfomance. Cricketgraph congratulates Abbott healthcare for their finals win while also wishes all the players luck for a great cricketing year ahead.
