It is very rightly said that “Age is just a number”. Many eyebrows were raised when Pravin Tambe made his IPL debut at the age of 41, an age at which usually the cricketers hang their boots. There is one such cricketer in Mumbai, who continues to play cricket at the jaw dropping age of 49. Ashwani Arora, former Director of Operations at DHL Express, is extremely young at heart and has kept the light of cricket burning inside him.
Just recently, Ashwani Arora, who plays for Worli Pitch Smashers picked up a five-wicket haul including a hat – trick against Chembur Strikers during the Sai Mumbai Master Premier League 2018. This tournament is played by the cricket enthusiasts who are above 35 years of age. Arora is a left arm chinaman bowler and turns the ball miles. He played a pivotal role in his team’s victory by bowling accurate line and length throughout his spell. He gave away just 21 runs in his 3.4 overs and picked up a fifer.
Ashwani’s love for the sport is tremendous, which is evident from the fact, that he quit his high-profile job just to pursue his hobby. Arora is an epitome of the popular saying, “It’s never too late to begin”.
The left arm chinaman bowler is very enterprising when it comes to playing cricket. He has spread his wings to the fullest and has traveled to England to play county cricket. It has been seven seasons that he has represented Surrey team in the county league. He went back to Chessington club in Surrey after a gap of 23 years. Next year, when Ashwani turns 50, he will be representing Surrey above 50 team in the English County league.
Cricketgraph wishes Ashwani Arora all the very best and hopes that he scales greater heights in the coming years.
Cricket is a sport that Juili picked up right from her childhood days. Her journey from playing with the boys in the compound walls to practising under the able aegis of Jonty Rhodes has been a spectacular one.
