Sujith Matthew stuns everybody: bags 7wkts which includes 5wkts in 5balls in the Chanawala T20 Tournament
Kimati Sports, one of the leading manufacturers of leather cricket balls in India, in collaboration, with Cricketgraph, launched Corporate Bowler Award this February to recognize the bowling talent in the corporate sphere. The award is bestowed on the best bowler of the week, based on the performance in the corporate cricket leagues. The winner is awarded with attractive prizes which include a certificate of appreciation and a BCCI approved Kimati leather cricket ball.
A match which took everyone by surprise because earlier there used to be a time when players would take 7 or 8wkt haul in tests but bowlers like Sujith are just proving how T20 is changing at an intense level. Just few days ago we got a shocker from Rudra who scored a 200 in a T20 & now comes Sujith who takes a 7wkt haul in a T20 game.
Held at Parsee Cyclists Ground in Mumbai, Tech Mahindra won the toss & elected to bat first. However it wasn’t the best of the performances with the bat as they managed to put only 133/7 on the board. Hardly any batsman was able to convert his start apart from Yash Divan who was the leading scorer smashing a very solid looking 50 off just 44balls (5fours). The bowlers did a really good job with Altamash ahmed being the pick of the bowlers taking 3/17 in 4 overs followed by 2wkts for Ritesh Vaity.
Chasing 134 is an achievable task 8 out of 10 times but who knew Tech Mahindra’s left arm spinner Sujith Matthew was in a completely different zone in that match. 4wkts in a T20 was good, 5wkt haul is simply magical in a T20 but have you heard of a 7wkt haul in T20s?
So before we reveal his figures, we want to suggest the readers not to get shocked or not believe this bowling figures as Sujith Matthew took 7wkts in 4overs giving just 4runs. That’s not all, what stunned everyone around was his 3rd over where he took a mesmerizing 5wkts in 5balls where all of them were clean bowled one after one. Sujith certainly finished the game in just one over as Alexion Business Services was all out for just 89/10.
With this perfomance, Sujith also surpasses Ajanta Mendis & Rangana herath’s record of best bowling figures in a T20 of 6/8 & 5/3 respectively (considering all the levels of T20). Cricketgraph heartily congratulates Sujith Matthew for this exceptional perfomance & it certainly proves once & for all how much untapped talent India has in every nook and corner of our nation.
