Srujan & Gaurav hit big tons to steer Parel SC to a dominating win in the Purshottam Shield Tournament ’17
Played at the western railway, Cross Maidan where in Parel SC and Dadar Union took on each other. Both the teams were extremely talented on paper with some exciting players and an intense competition was bound to happen where Parel SC batted first.
Batting first, Parel SC notched up a mammoth 380runs in 61.4 overs and showed that the wicket has definitely changed compared to the 2nd half of September and October. Openers Pragnesh and Varun chipped in with 20’s but it was the young Srujan Athawale who scored a solid 134 off just 133 deliveries (13fours, 1six) which solidified the Parel SC innings. Srujan played some great cricketing shots while also did good running between the wickets. However, the show was not over yet as their Skipper Gaurav Chavan who came in at no.7 went on to score one of the blistering tons the tournament will get to see. Right handed Gaurav smashed 116 off mere 66deliveries at a strike rate of 175+ playing the skipper’s role to perfection while also showing his class and experience with the bat. Gaurav did not spare a single bowler en-route his brutal hundred where he smashed 14fours and 5sixes. From Dadar Union, spinner Akshay Darekar with 4/93 and pacer Siddarth Raut with 3/66 were the pick of the bowlers.
Dadar Union batted really strong and gave a nice tough fight as they managed to score 352/10 in 68.3 overs. Young left-handed Yashasvi Jaiswal keeps on proving that he is made for the bigger things as he single handedly fought hard at no.3 scoring 115 off just 96balls (16fours, 2sixes). Akshay Darekar down the order scored a fighting 51 but eventually Parel SC won the match by 28runs. It was a match full of great performances and especially skipper Gaurav, Srujan and the young Yashashvi who scored impressive tons. Cricketgraph congratulates the winning team while wishes luck to all the players for their upcoming matches.
