Railways Triumph In SMAT Game 2 Against Mizoram
The Indian Railways tasted the first victory of the season against Mizoram in game 2 of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy against Mizoram. The toss was won by Mizrom who opted to set a target. This decision proved to be costly that afternoon as the Railways chased the target down with ease.
Batting first Mizoram managed the total of only 96 in 20 overs with half the side in the dug out. Needless to mention, the Railways bowlers had an emphatic afternoon. Pradeed Poojar and Susheel Kumar bowled tight lines with the new ball. Harsh Tyagi and Akshat Pandey restricted the run flow quite well as they played the deputy roles in this game. The real stars with the ball were Mohit Raut and Karn Sharma. Raut bowled an exceptional spell of 4 overs in which he gave away only 11 runs and picked up 2 crucial wickets. Skipper Karn Sharma bowled quite economically and purchased a wicket for himself.
The bowling unit had already caused the damage, it was time for the batsmen to pick up the pieces. At the loss of 3 wickets, the Indian Railways chased down the target in mere 13 overs. Opener Pratham Singh (17 off 19) and Shivam Chaudhary (25 off 17) provided a steady start to the chase. Mohammad Saif, the 3 number batter scored a quickfire 32 off just 20 deliveries with 4 boundaries and a maximum to his name. Vivek Singh and keeper Upendra Yadav hammered the final coffin as they finished off a dominant game at Rajkot.
Given the close match ending in disappointment for the Indian Railways against Uttarakhand a day prior, this comeback victory is commendable to set a positive momentum for the upcoming games.
