Railways beat Tripura by 6 wickets in Ranji Trophy
Railways took on Tripura in their Elite Group D Ranji Trophy clash from January 10 to 13 at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium in Surat. Tripura won the toss and elected to bat.
Opting to bat first, Tripura had a horrid outing as they were bowled out for a paltry 96 in 49.3 overs. Bikramkumar Das (35) and Wriddhiman Saha (24) were the major contributors with the bat for Tripura. On the other hand, Railways’ Akash Pandey wreaked havoc with the ball, claiming 18/4 in 16 overs, including six maidens.
In reply, Railways posted a mammoth 337 in 109.1 overs and took a handsome lead of 241 runs. Shivam Chaudhary (70), Pratham Singh (79), Yuvraj Singh (74), and Akash Pandey (57 not out) crafted stellar half-centuries for Railways. On the other hand, Tripura’s Deepak Khatri was the pick of the bowlers with 46/4 in 13.1 overs, including two maidens.
Trailing by 241, Tripura scored a comprehensive 449 in 149.5 overs to set a target of 209 runs. Sudip Chatterjee starred with the bat for Tripura muscling a delightful 165. Rajat Dey (89), Bikramkumar Das (62), and Wriddhiman Saha (53) chipped in with useful contributions. On the other hand, it was Pandey again for the Railways to scalp a four-fer.
Chasing 209 for an outright win, Railways completed the formalities in 40.3 overs and won the match by six wickets. Mohammad Saif led the run chase from the front with a brilliant 69. For Tripura, Rana Dutta was the most successful bowler with 52/2 in 11 overs.
