Railways’ batters dominate as Sangwan’s spell demolishes Gujarat in Ranji Trophy
Railways registered a comprehensive win by an innings and 56 runs against Gujarat during their Elite Group D Ranji Trophy clash. The match was played from January 24 to 26 at the Narendra Modi Stadium B Ground in Ahmedabad.
Batting first, Railways posted a mammoth 508 in 116.4 overs. The opening pair of Shivam Chaudhary (83) and Vivek Singh (97) stitched a 142-run partnership to lay a solid foundation for the Railways. After the fall of Shivam’s wicket, Pratham Singh (96) joined hands with Vivek. Later in the innings, captain Upendra Yadav (79) and Yuvraj Singh (50) struck half-centuries to take Railways beyond the 500-run mark. For Gujarat, Chintan Gaja and Hardik Patel were the most successful bowlers, with four wickets apiece.
In reply, Gujarat were bowled out for 205 in 59.1 overs. Hemang Patel top-scored with 39 for Gujarat. On the other hand, Himanshu Sangwan wreaked havoc with the ball for the Railways, claiming 75/4 in 17 overs, including two maidens. Trailing by 303, Railways imposed a follow-on on Gujarat.
Batting again, Gujarat failed to click as a unit as they were bundled out for 247 in 69.3 overs. Gujarat’s captain Het Patel was the lone warrior in the fight with a gritty 84. On the other hand, for Railways, Akash Pandey scalped 65/6 in 21.3 overs, including three maidens. Sangwan, who opened the bowling for Railways, chipped in with 19/1 in six overs, including one maiden. He won the player of the match award.
