Parsee Gymkhana wins Young Comrade semis as Ashay, Ajinkya and Akarshit fires while Akhil and Sandeep’s efforts fall in vain
Played at the Parsee Gymkhana in Marine Lines, Parsee Gymkhana and Parkophene Cricketers took on each other where in Parsee Gymhana won the toss and elected to bowl first as the wicket had some due for the bowlers too.
However, Parkophene Cricketers were off to a flying start on the back of their solid openers Akhil Herwadkar and Sandeep Kunchikor. While the talented Akhil went on to score a brazen 104 off 125balls which had 12fours and 3sixes, Sandeep on the other hand also looked impressive smashing a quick 74 which had 7fours and 4sixes. Both the openers dominated the bowlers with a 140run stand but the batting line up below them could not pounce on the positive momemtum left behind by these two apart from Omprakash Jaiswal who scored a valiant 63 at the middle order. From the bowlers, all-rounders Punit Tripathy and Manish Rao scalped 3wkts each as Parkophene Cricketers were all out for a healthy total of 390/10 in 69.5 overs.
Chasing 391, Parsee Gymkhana ensured that the chase was taken care of as their reliable set of openers Akarshit Gomel and Ajinkya Patil gave an 112runs opening stand. While Gomel as always looked solid in his 49ball 56, Ajinkya on the other hand anchored the chase with a fluent 112 off 129balls (12fours, 2sixes). Ajinkya toiled hard in between the wickets while also played some elegant shots. What’s more, he got able support from Ashay Sardesai (96 off 122, 16fours) who fell just 4runs short of what could have been a classy match winning ton. Promising Ashay who has been in good form this season engaged in a 149runs stand with Ajinkya as Parsee Gymkhana chased down the score successfully in just 64.1overs winning the match by 7wkts.
Parsee Gymkhana qualify for the finals of the Young Comrade on the back of excellent batting display by Ajinkya, Ashay and Akarshit while Akhil and Sandeep from Parkophene were also impressive giving their best.
