Mumbai: The Bombay Gymkhana will be organizing the inaugural Inter-Schools T20 Cricket Tournament at the Gymkhana’s Cricket ground from January 7 to 25, 2020.

Eight school teams will be participating in this league-cum-knockout tournament. The 8 teams will be divided into two groups of four teams each and they will play on a round-robin league format. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.

The participating schools include, Cathedral & John Connon, Campion School, G.D. Somani, St. Mary’s, Gopi Birla School, Greenlawns, Aditya Birla and Dhirubhai Ambani.

As noted by legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar; that maximum students should get chance to play, this tournament is being organized with each team of 14 players wherein any 11 can bat or bowl; thereby all 14 players get to play. All other ICC rules will apply for this tournament. 

To give the young cricketers a unique experience; a few matches including the semi-finals and final will be played under floodlights. All matches will be played at the historic Bombay Gymkhana ground where the first ever Test match between India and England was played from December 15 to 18, 1933.

Star CC after being put to bat first at Azad Maidan posted a commanding total of 303/9 in 45 overs. Coming at no.3 Vinod Ade remained unbeaten till the end scoring a fantastic 111* off 101 balls (9 fours, 4 sixes). Vinod who scored a Kanga hundred on debut continues to show his prowess with the bat as he pushed his team towards a very good total.

Ravishankar Singh

Fort Youngsters CC in reply were all out for 193 runs thanks to some tight bowling by Ravishankar Singh and Tejas Desmukh. Ravishankar who is in good nick with the ball this season picked up 4/30 in 5.5 overs while spinner Tejas Desmukh bagged 4/41 in 9 overs as Star CC won the game by 110 runs.

Parkophene Cricketers batting first at DPC Ground, Dadkar Maidan posted a total of 205/10 in 58.5 overs. With the team struggling at 7/85, it was Omprakash Jaiswal rescuing his team from trouble scoring a brilliant 106 off 140 balls at no.6. Omprakash smashed 10 fours and 6 sixes pushing his team towards a decent total of 205/10 in 58.5 overs. From the bowlers, it was Mumbai’s prime all-rounder Shams Mulani coming up with an excellent spell of 8/73 in 20.3 overs.

Shivaji Park Gymkhana chasing 206 were off to a brilliant start with openers Gandhar Bhatawadekar (82 off 72 balls) & Akash Anand (33 off 63) putting on 121 runs for the 1st wicket.  Eventually they sealed of the chase in 32.5 overs winning the game by 5 wkts.

Into the final match of the season, Yogi CC batting first at Sainath Sports Club declared their innings at 193/8 in 41 overs. Even though it was a sluggish start by the top order, it was their middle order bats consisting of Sourabh Singh (41) and Chandan Chauhan (57). From the bowlers, left arm spinner Yash Chavan and right arm spinner Bharat Patil with 4 wkts each were the pick of the bowlers.

Sainath SC despite their opener Umesh Gurjar’s brilliant 69 failed to cross the 1st innings lead. Karan More (28) and Sachin Solanki (28) did try their best but the team was all out for 169 runs in 36.2 overs. Sourabh Singh owned the day with a solid all round performance as he also came up with 5 wkts conceding only 25 runs in 9 overs. Kunal Pal was also quite supportive with his spell of 4/28 in 9 overs.

Yogi Cricket Club won the match by an innings and reached the no.5 position in the table with 14 pts in 9 games. On the other hand, Sainath SC who have performed well throughout the tournament with 20 pts in 9 games emerge champions of C Div Kanga league and get promoted to B Div.

T20 MASTERS CUP (pink): Osian’s cricket club was up against Star India on 28th December. The match was conducted at Vengsarkar Academy, Mahul and Star India won the toss to field first. The wicket was a flat track. The match was organized by ONEWORLD SPORTS.

Osian’s Opener Vishal shah was the crème de la crème on that day and put the Star India bowlers on a leather hunt. His aggressive 62 balls 131 along with Opener Kamran Ahmed’s 53 took Osian’s total to 225 in 20 overs. The star bowlers were taken to the cleaners in the innings however, Darshan Arekar picked up a triplet in 4 overs. Overall, they picked up 6 wickets.

Infront of the Star batsmen was a titanic of total. The batsmen purely succumbed to the pressure, adding to that the batters were lacking proper footwork to tackle the spinners. The pick of the bowlers was Mayur, the left arm spinner who was aiming a comeback trapped the batsmen with his whirligigs of deliveries and in the very first over sent three batsmen back to the pavilion. Mayur was exceptional and ended up picking up a six wicket haul for just 7 runs. His bowling was a mix of chinamans and orthodox spin vis-à-vis the type of batsman. Star India had 6 batsmen who scored duck therefore were reasonably bowled out for 59 runs.

Result – Osian’s Cricket Club won by 166 runs.

Regal CC batting first at PJ Hindu Gymkhana ground posted a total of 292/10 in 68.1 overs. Openers Japjeet Singh Randhawa (77) and Pranay Patil (73) gave a brilliant opening start of 149 runs which laid the foundation for Regal’s innings. Viraj Jadhav (43) and Sumedh Kamble (60) at the middle order also gave crucial contributions. Amongst the bowlers, Aryan Patni with 4/92 in 19 overs was the pick of the bowlers while Daksh and Sachin bagged 3 wkts each.

Chasing 289, Goregaon SC were off to a decent start with opener Vedant Gadia scoring a brilliant 124 off 164 balls. Young Vedant in his debut Purshottam match certainly looked quite confident vs players seniors to him as he rotated the strike freely while smashed 16 confident boundaries. However, he lacked support from the other end as Goregaon SC lacked big partnerships.

In what turned out to be a thriller of a match, Regal SC successfully defended the total restricting Goregaon SC to 288 all out and winning the match by just 4 runs. The Sachin Khartade run out and Viraj Jadhav taking the last wicket turned the game in the crucial last 15 mins as Regal CC clinched a memorable win. For Regal, Saeed Khot (4/93) and Viraj Jadhav (3/29) were the pick of the bowlers.

 

Mumbai: Greater Mumbai Police produced a strong all-round performance and registered a convincing 8-wicket win against Pune Police in the final of the Inter-District cricket tournament 2019 for the Martyr Ashok Kamte Memorial Trophy, organized by Superintendent of Police, Palghar and played at the Shivpark Cricket Ground, Nalasopara.

The Mumbai Police has successfully retained their title.

Batting first Pune Police were dismissed for 136 runs in 19.5 overs. Middle order batsmen Pruthviraj Gaikwad (22 runs) and Amar Salve (19 runs) lifted the Pune Police innings. Mumbai Police medium pacers Amit Jadhav (3 for 14) and Yogesh Patil (2 for 8) were responsible for restricting the opponents to a small total.

In reply, Mumbai Police opening batsmen Sudhakar Siddul (53 runs) and Sunil Patil (35 runs) ensured they reached the winning target scoring 139 runs for the loss of just two wickets in 16.2 overs. Shrikant Limbole (28 runs) and Rohit Pol (20 runs) completed the finishing touches. Gaikwad (1 for 40) and Ankush Dighe (1 for 20) got the wickets.

There was reason for celebration for the Mumbai Police team as they bagged all the three individual awards. Rohit Pol was declared as the ‘Man of the Tournament’ the ‘Best bowler of the tournament’ award was claimed by Kailas Kolekar and the ‘Man of the final’ prize went to Sudhakar Siddul.

Brief scores: Pune Police 136 all out, in 19.5 overs (Pruthviraj Gaikwad 22, Amar Salve 19; Amit Jadhav 3 for 14, Yogesh Patil 2 for 8) lost to Greater Mumbai Police  139 for 2 wickets, in 16.2 overs (Sudhakar Siddul 53, Sunil Patil 35, Shrikant Limbole 28, Rohit Pol 20; P. Gaikwad 1 for 40, Ankush Dighe 1 for 20) by 8 wickets.

Fort Vijay batting first at MIG Cricket Ground were at one stage in deep trouble with half of the team back to pavilion with 123 runs on board. Coming at no.6 when the team was in trouble, Patil changed the game from nowhere smashing a blazing 233 off mere 158 balls laced with 21 fours and 11 sixes. Not only is this the highest score so far this year in Purshottam, but this is also one of the fastest double tons in the history of Purshottam Shield’19. Nikhil Patil was nicely supported by lower order batsman like Siddarth Mhatre (49) & Rohit Yadav (50) as Fort Vijay from 123/5 reached a commanding total of 452/9 in 70 overs.

Worli Sports Club despite a solid 66 by opener Viraj Gamre were all out for 188 runs with left arm spinner Kunal Thorat coming up with excellent bowling spell of 5/54 in 17 overs. Kunal got some crucial wickets at crucial junctures as he ensured the opposition team remained on the backfoot.

Fort Vijay eventually won the game by 264 runs while it was Nikhil Patil grabbing all the attention with his power packed double century.

 

Into its 3rd season, Patan Premier League will kickstart from 28th December 2019. The tournament has been going on since the last 3 years and with every year the level of the tournament has just increased. The tournament is conducted in T20 Format and all the participating players are from Patan Gujarat.

The next 2 months will witness like every year some exciting matches and individual performances.  Somira patan premier league. This tournament consists of 7 teams wherein all owners are from Patan and the players also have to be from Patan to be able to play for the teams. All players have been bought by a process of auction held in Mumbai. This is also the first year we are taking all the teams to Daman to play in a Ranji Trophy ground so that the players get good exposure,

Yogi CC opting to bat first at Police Gymkhana Ground made a fine total of 323/6 in 45 overs. Despite a few early wickets, it was their opener Dishant Dedhia (72) and Niranjan Paradkar (112) stitching a 172 run stand for the 3rd wicket. Niranjan scored an attacking 112 off mere 83 balls which had 13 fours and 3 sixes while Dishant played the supporting role to perfection. Rajesh Bambhania at lower middle order gave the perfect finish to the innings with his quick 39 ball 62* which had 5 fours and 3 sixes.

Garware Club in reply were all out for 130 runs thanks to a match winning spell by spinner Vikas Chaubey who came up with 5/32 in 6 overs. Vikas was spot on coming up with timely breakthroughs as he eroded the entire middle order to ensure Yogi CC win the game by 193 runs.
