Opener Sumedh Tare was very productive with the bat, he provided a solid base for the innings to grow. He scored 45 runs off 35 balls. He had an outstanding partnership with No.4 batsman Nishant Shivalkar and they piled on a partnership of 74 runs. Nishant also played with a very positive mindset, both of them kept the tempo of their innings up. Nishant scored a classy innings of 66 runs off 48 balls that consisted of 10 fours. Providing the final touch, Safal sood played a quick 39 off 16 balls. Eventually, they reached to a score of 192 runs losing 4 wickets in 20 overs.

Nishan Shivalkar from Johnson & Johnson Team score 66 runs in 48 balls (10 Fours)

The batting performance by Titan was a near debacle. They lacked big run scorers on the day and eventually were not able to nurture partnerships in the middle Abhimanyu Khanna scored a decent 33 off 19 balls, except him no other batsman looked promising. They were all out at the score of 97 runs in 14.4 overs. For Johnson and Johnson, Keyur Pawaskar picked up a figure of 3 for 13 and other bowlers were also eye catching. The pick of the bowlers and the star performer of the day was left arm spinner Hari Mohan Kandari who was extremely prolific with the ball. He bowled an incredible spell of 6 for 17 in 3.4 overs. He stuck to his basics and trapped the opposition batters with his orthodox turners. Overall, it was a 360 degree performance by Johnson & Johnson.

In the match between St Mary’s vs Cathedral, St Mary’s winning the toss chose to bat first scoring 81 runs in 20 overs. Raadnya Apte scored 48 of 39 with 7 boundaries when wickets tumbled at the other end, Kush Attawala down the order scored some handy runs to take his team to 81 of their 20 overs. From Cathedral Amey Sanghvi bowled a brilliant spell of 5/06 and Arnav Bakshi taking 2/13.

It was a difficult task for St Mary’s to defend such a low total but their left arm bowling attack managed to defend it. Pacer Raahib Fatehi took 3 wickets while Harsh Sonawala chipped in with 2 as well. Arnav Rawte gave only 5 runs of his 4 overs & it was Kush Attawala towards the end who bowled with Mir Tawde in the death to pull the game to a tie.

The superover was played to decide the match

Kush Attawala bowled from Mary’s where in Arnav Bakshi started off well on his first 3 balls but couldn’t get much in the second half of the over where Kush bowled his left arm tweakers. Mary’s had to chase 13. Raadnya Apte started with a boundary and doubles kept coming and all the last two winning runs were pulled of by Raahib as St. Mary’s romped into the finals.

Played at the Matunga Gymkhana ground, Ajanta Pharma team after being put to bat first by BEST Arts & SC were all out for a modest total of 146 runs in 32.2 overs. Opener Omkar Rilkar and Hanumant Matkar were the highest scorers for Ajanta with scores of 51 and 33 respectively. Amongst the bowlers, it was Suresh Wadekar who turned out to be the Best bowler for BEST team as he came up with bowling figures of 5/45 in 9 overs.

Defending a low total, Ajanta Team were certainly in more pressure than BEST as it wasn’t a threatening total to defend. Also with the start which BEST team had with 30-35 runs on the board for the loss of no wicktets, it required someone to change the game in the final sessions.

Eventually, Ajanta Pharma bowlers made a strong comeback doing excellent job of restricting BEST team for just 94 runs all out in 27.1 overs. All-rounder Prashant Prindavankar’s bowling spell changed the course of the match as he provided quick breakthroughs with envious bowling figures of 5/9 in 8 overs coupled with 2 maidens. As Ajanta Pharma coach Sameer Gawas shared with Cricketgraph-“It was an extra ordinary bowling performance from Prashant and such bowling figures are very commendable”

It was on the back of those stunning bowling figures, Ajanta Pharma team won the match by 68 runs. Even though it was a low scoring encounter between both the teams, the game did produce a lot of excitement with fair share of ups and downs.

Entering this game, no doubt SVIS have a great legacy of cricket and they are a powerful team but when you talk about Giles and Harris Shield, teams like Rizvi, Al-Barkaat have all been uncontested with numerous titles to their name.

Hence an exciting competition was bound to happen, the odds were favoring at Al-barkaat looking at their past records and how strong the side is while in no case you can under estimate the promising XI of SVIS boys who time and again come up with spectacular performances.

Even though it was an U14 Competetion, this 3 day Test match turned out to be as exciting as any senior level test match would be. A match which witnessed fair share of ups and downs, a match which had both the teams dominating at one stage and no one could makeout a probable winner till the very last day.

Al-Barkaat after being put to bat first at the iconic Brabourne Stadium were all out for 167 runs in 58.1 overs. With a shaky start , it was their no.3 batsman Aryan Badhane scoring 71 off 120 balls while Shourya Desai scoring an unbeaten 29* down the order. SVIS bowlers were quite spot on with all rounder Aayush Vaity and Pranay Kapadia bagging 3 wkts a piece.

Left-SVIS Boys A Vaity and Soham Gondkar steal a single. Right-Al-Barkaat Spinner Aryan Kumar

SVIS in reply were struggling with scoreboard reading 5/56, 6/65 and 7/93 at one stage. However make no mistake, the fire was still burning and this is one match which SVIS will remember for years to come.  SVIS boys Aaayush Vaity and Soham Gondkar dodged 359 deliveries together surviving tough sessions as well as putting their team out of trouble with a defendable 1st innings total. Aayush who came at no.7 showed excellent composure scoring 95* facing 214 deliveries. It was not the natural game for Aayush as he himself confessed but the situation of the game demanded him to bat with a cool head. Soham Gondkar who came at no.9 was equally supportive as he batted for 145 deliveries scoring 27 runs. Getting a chance to bat only for the 2nd time in the tournament, Aayush pumped him up time and again to keep the hopes alive reaching a 1st innings total of 196 in 107.3 overs. Aryan Kumar from Al-Barkaat was fantastic with the ball coming up with a 5 wkt haul.

Al-Barkaat in the 2nd innings declared at 186/1 with Aryan Badhane (74) and Yaseen Shaikh (76*) scoring solid half centuries. With 177 to chase in the 2nd innings, SVIS were 91/2 in 36 overs before the end of the game’s play at Day 3 where they were declared winners on the basis of 1st innings lead. With this, the 15 years of wait for SVIS gets over as the last time they won this prestigious title was in 2004-2005.

Aayush Vaity was certainly the man of the finals while Al-Barkaat’s Yaseen Shaikh with 269 runs at an average of 69.25 was adjudged the “Best Batsman”. Off Spinner Rudra Tank of SVIS with 28 wickets was declared the “Best Bowler”
