Hundreds in a T20 game evoked excitement a few years back, scoring a T20 hundred was a fascination and a aim for many T20 Batsman but who can imaging that even T10 Cricket Tournanents will start and there are players who can hit a individual hundred in a T10 Format!
First data after being made to bat first at DPC Gymkhana Matunga were least deterred as they made a commanding total of 163/2 in 10 overs. Sanket Mirgal who had opened the innings smashed an unbelievable knock as he went on to score a mesmerizing 115* off 41 balls. His innings were laced with 10 fours and 9 sixes at a strike rate of 286.50. It was power hitting all the way as he probably became the 1st batsman to score a hundred in a 10 over game.
MID MARK in reply managed to score only 69/3 in 10 Overs as First Data won the match by 94 runs while Sanket Mirgal was declared ‘man of the match’
The Christmas eve was power-packed with two high octane cricket matches that were played at MIG Bandra, Mumbai as a part of Automotive Cricket League T20 2018-19. The two big private banks; ICICI and Kotak Mahindra locked horns against each other on Tuesday at MIG Bandra. Winning the toss and electing to field first, Kotak conceded 173 runs in 20 overs picking up seven wickets. ICICI’s opening pair of Jitesh Purabia (65) and Gaurav Pradhan (24) stitched a solid partnership of 94 runs in 11.1 overs, and set the tone of the innings. Purabia struck a delightful 65 off 42 balls, smacking eight boundaries and two sixes. The right hand bat timed the ball really well, and scored freely off the spinners and pacers. Middle order bat Kuldeep Panda played a cameo scoring 34 off 20, pushing the ICICI’s score to a massive 173. In reply, Mayur Ghag was the pick of the bowlers for Kotak Mahindra, as he scalped 3-18 in his four overs and received good help from Nishikant Sawant who chipped in with 2-22 in his four overs.
Chasing a daunting target of 174, it was important for Kotak Mahindra to get off to a steady start. However, opening bat Nishikant Sawant fell cheaply for a duck in the very first over of the second innings. Apart from the other opening bat RugvedChaudhari (25) and middle order batsman Upendra (42), none of the players from Kotak Mahindra looked in shape. ICICI’s bowling was disciplined and they struck at regular intervals to build the pressure. Shaleen Gupta and Nikhil Mandavkar picked up couple of wickets apiece. Jitesh Purabia, who earlier showed his charm with the bat, spilled magic with the ball, as he picked up the wicket of the opening bat Nishikant Sawant. Kotak Mahindra was restricted to a paltry 126-9 in 20 overs, losing the game by 47 runs.
JiteshPurabia won the Man of the Match for his all-round performance. Purabia averred, “Early on, it was a little difficult to score freely, but as I got my eye in, I could capitalize. I got a life early on in my innings, and since then I was more focused to play a big knock. With the ball, I bent my back well and struck in the very first over of the innings. I am elated to contribute for a winning cause”.
Earlier in the month, Jitesh, who plays for Warriors at the club level, scored a delightful 85 (not out) off 45 against Borivali Bulls at Western Railway ground and performed even better against Khar Knights when he smashed an unbeaten 115 off 60 at Air India Sports Club during the Sportsjig Premier T20 League.

During the Automotive Cricket League T20, the second match of the power packed Christmas eve was played between Route Mobile and Montage on Tuesday at MIG Bandra, Mumbai. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Montage posted a respectable total of 143-6 in 20 overs, courtesy an unbeaten half century struck by Sushil More coming lower down the order. The top order collapse followed by successive wickets in the middle order did no good for Montage, and it was finally left to the trio of Gurmeet Singh (22), Shubham Kamat (29), and Sushil More (53 not out), to save the team’s face. Utkarsh Satvse remained unbeaten on 17, thus helping his side to put up a decent score on board. For Route Mobile, Siddharth, who opened the bowling struck with 2-24 in his four overs and was backed well by Mohammad Amir, Viraj Gamre, and Oninder Gill, each of them picking up one wicket.
In reply, Route Mobile made a mockery of the target as they finished off the game in style in just 13.3 overs, winning the match by eight wickets. Opening bat Vishal Dhagaonkar played a stellar knock of 64 (36), and batted right through the chase. Striking at a rate of close to 200, Vishal’s innings was laced with eight boundaries and two sixes. He was attacking the bowlers right from the word go and looked invincible at the crease. On the other hand, Montage’s bowlers had an off day, with only Gurmeet Singh managing to contribute to the wicket’s column with a lone wicket of Sumit Meher (16).
For his scintillating performance with the bat, Route Mobile’s Vishal Dhagaonkar was awarded as the Man of the Match. Vishal expressed, “This innings has given a boost to my confidence. The wicket was a little dry, but I was determined to play each and every ball on its merit. I was pretty comfortable facing the medium pacers, and could score well off them. I hope to take this form going into the next match”.

Cricket Club of India after being made to bat first at Sachin Tendulkar Ground, Kandivali replied with a perfect response smashing 214/7 in 20 overs which is a very good T20 total. T20 Specialist Paul Valthaty showed he still has lot of cricket left in him as he smashed a fiery 30 ball 66 opening the innings which had 6 biggies. It was also treat to watch the experienced Vinit Indulkar smashing a 14 ball 40 at a strike rate of 286! Watching Vinit who is a calm and classy batsman whom you usually associate with the classical format of the game playing in such fashion was a treat to watch.
New Hind SC despite some early setbacks were in the game throughout the innings thanks to their run machine Sachin Yadav. The left hander who has scored runs in every format this year tick marked one more format i.e T20 as he plonked the bowlers with absolute ease showing the form he is. Sachin scored 103 runs off 52 balls (10 fours, 3 sixes) while Avdhoot gave good support with 54 but eventually good death bowling by CCI bowlers made New Hind 14 runs short of the target.
CCI won the match while it was entertainment from both the sides!
Kadir Patel who smashed a solid 52 vs National CC last weekend continues to impress in the ongoing T20 tournament and this time against Mumbai Police Gymkhana. Young Mohmmedan electing to bat first posted a big total of 202/5 in 20 overs. Kadir Patel who came at no.3 was the highest scorer for his team smashing an elegant 86* off 58 balls batting till the end. Kadir smashed 11 fours and 3 sixes as he kept the scoreboard ticking helping his team reach a competitive total.
Mumbai Police Gymkhana on the other hand were off to a flyer with their top 3 givign quick cameos but they eventually managed to reach 182/9 in 20 overs as Young Mohmmedan team won the match by 20 runs where in Kadir’s 86* certainly remained the highlight performance of the match.
A caption has been going on that 5 sixes made a player go for 5 crores at IPL, if that would be the case what would be the auction price for this hard hitter Aman Khan who in his recent game smashed a 33 ball 84 which had as many as 12 big sixes! Aman who is a fast bowling all-rounder since last few years has consistently come up with some unbelievably quick knocks where he has displayed some brilliant power hitting. He has scored some of the fastest 50’s and 100’s in the last 2 years across various formats but he is yet to come in someone’s radar.
Aman’s blazing 84 helped DY Patil reach 219/10 in 19.5 overs which they successfully defended vs DPC Sports Club who managed to score 155/5 in 20 overs as DY Patil won the match by 47 runs.
Owens Corning India Pvt Ltd. faced IndiaFirst Life this Saturday (22-Dec-2018) in both Teams’ second outing in The Corporate T10 Cricket Shield 2018-19. After beating Group favourites Hindustan Unilever Ltd. easily in their first league Match, Owens looked like a formidable unit. Playing back-to-back matches, IndiaFirst Life was upbeat as well after defeating Mahindra Insurance Brokers Ltd. in a tight finish earlier in the day.
After winning the Toss, Owens decided to field first at Dadar Parsi Colony Sporting Club, Matunga Gymkhana, Mumbai. IndiaFirst got to a quick start with a quickfire Partnership of 49 in just 3.4 overs between Babli Sharma and Skipper Ajish Abdul Rehman for the Second Wicket. A regular Opening Batsman, Ajish decided to go in at No. 3 in order to give the other openers in the Team (Pushkar Sharma & Babli) a go. Particularly severe on the quicks all round the wicket, he raced to 33 off 14 Deliveries (5 Fours & a Six) before departing with the Score at 74/1 in 6.3 overs. Till then, a total of around 125 seemed to be on the cards. But soon, Babli (28 off 22; 2 4s & 1 Six) was caught at deep mid-wicket, the longest part of the ground. Anand Pawar easily judged the skier that seemed to be lost in the orbit for quite some time. Vice Captain Ramana Meesala’s late innings cameo of 22 off 12 balls helped his team finish at 98/4 in the stipulated 10 overs. A flat square-driven six in the last over thudded into the Dadar Parsi Pavilion, providing a perfect finish to the Innings. For Owens, Ganesh Shirke (2-0-12-0) bowled a tight Spell with Sachin Dongre taking 2 Wickets.
Set to chase down the Target of 99, Owens put up a great platform with an opening partnership of 49 in just 4.3 overs. Another 50 was required in 33 Balls with all the wickets intact. Wicket-keeper Santosh Revankar (17 off 10) was nicely caught by Dharmendra Gupta at long-off after covering good amount of ground. Dharmendra also went on to run the other opener Manish Patil out for 29 with his brilliant Fielding.
With 41 to win from 4 overs, with 9 wickets in hand, Owens seemed to be favorites. In the 7th over, Sanket Teli took a wicket and gave away just 7 Runs to take the equation to 34 from 3. Ajish, after taking it deep to ensure that he could bowl 2 of the last 3 Overs, generated some brisk pace. Maintaining a tight line and length, he gave away just a Single off the first 5 Balls. Now 33 off 13 seemed almost out of range for Owens. The last ball of the over, a Yorker, was squeezed out towards Deep Mid-Wicket for what seemed like a Single.
But what followed was complete drama. Fielder Ramana running in to field the Ball, pulled a muscle. Pravin Malik covered huge ground from Long-on to pick up and throw the ball to the Bowler, who it turn threw it towards the striker’s end. The ball ricocheted off the batsman towards the third man boundary. By this time the Batsmen had already run 5. While attempting the 6th, a brilliantly direct-hit from wicket-keeper Babli ensured another Run-out.
Left Arm Spinner Wasim Sayyed restricted them to just 9 off the penultimate over while bowling from the end with the shorter boundary on the on side. 19 was required off the last over bowled by Ajish. 2 more run outs later, the equation read 13 needed off the last 2. A brilliantly struck six on the short off-side boundary by Vishal Jitekar ensured that this match too went down till the last ball, with 7 more to win. Another quick yorker from Ajish ensured that Vishal could only muster a single off the last ball, finishing unbeaten on 20 off 12 (2 Fours, 1 Six). It was a brave effort from him though. Thus, IndiaFirst Life Insurance won by 5 runs by restricting Owens to 93/6.
It was again an exceptional performance in the field for IndiaFirst, which also saw as many as 4 run-outs. Other notable contributors were Sandeep Shetty, Pushkar Sharma, Waseem Sayyed and Sanket Teli. Sanket was the pick of the bowlers too, with bowling figures of 2-0-14-2.
Ajish was named Man of the Match for his all-round performace. He commended Positiveleap for the way they were professionally managing such a fast-paced Tournament, keeping up the enthusiasm and excitement throughout. A sizeable Team of Organizers were present at the Ground managing each aspect.
IndiaFirst Life now leads the Table with 2 wins from 2 matches, with their last match slotted against Hindustan Unilever Ltd.

Rizvi Springfield after being made to bat first at Bombay Gymkhana Fort notched up 209/9 in 96 overs. Opening the innings, Rizvi’s consistent opener Abhinav Singh top scored for his team with a gritty 94 off 234 balls saving his team from a low total. Al-Barkat in reply were 186/7 in 80 overs with Prem Naik (53) and Saumil Malandkar (55) hitting half centuries. Even though the match ended in a draw but Al Barkar were adjudged winners on the basis of net run rate
In the 2nd semis between IES New English School Bandra and VN Sule Guruji High School, VN Sule opting to bat first were bundled out for 118 runs thanks to a wonderful bowling spell by Shubham Kharat who came up with bowling figures of 6/29 in 18.5 overs. IES New English School in reply made 197/5 with Anurag Nair hitting a half century as they won the match on 1st innings lead.
The finals between Al-barkat and IES English School will be between January 8 to January 10 at the Bombay Gymkhana Ground.
Played at the Mahim Juvenile, Dadar, IES VN Sule winning the toss elected to bat first making a healthy total of 331/5. Opening the innings, Raj Desmukh plonked the bowlers in every corner of the ground as he continues to impress the cricketing community. Raj scored a brilliant 175 coming off mere 124 balls laced with 25 boundaries. He also got a great support from Tanay Khandeshi who scored a solid 114 opening the innings with Raj. Both the boys stitched a memorable 289 run stand for the 1st wicket which set the tone for their innings.
Defending a total of 300+, Hansraj Morarji School were all out for 96 runs thanks to their star all-rounder Raj Desmukh who came good with the ball too. Raj came up with match winning bowling figures of 5/35 with his leg spinners as IES won in a dominating fashion.
In the 1st Match where PTCA elected to bat first, they made 104/8 in 20 overs with Rivansh chipping in with 24 runs. Titans in reply recieved a tough fight but eventually crossed the victory line winning the match by just 1 wicket thanks to Rushikesh Chavan’s crucial cameo of 22 runs and a wicket which not only helped Titans win but also helped him earn ‘man of the match’ award.
In the 2nd Match, Pro King Sports Academy were all out for 83 runs after electing to bat first with Yogesh’s 14 ball 20 being the highest score. Vijay Indap Cricket Academy in reply chased it down with ease winning the match by 5 wkts. Prasad Gangurde from VICA who scored 26* off 28 balls and also took 2 wkts was declared man of the match.
