The inaugural ceremony of the eighth edition of the State Level Advocates Cricket Tournament will be held on December 26, 2021 at 7pm. The event will take place at Meenatai Thakre Stadium in Nashik. The Chief Guests for the programme are, Bombay High Court Judges; Justice Prakash Deu Naik, Justice Makarand Subhash Karnik and Justice Sandeep Kashinath Shinde. Adv. Sanjiv Kadam, President Advocate Association of Western India Mumbai, will also grace the event. The other prominent members to be present for the ceremony are, Adv. K.K.Ghuge, Adv. Daulatrao Ghumre, Adv. Avinash Bhide, Adv. Jayant Jaybhave, Adv. K.J.Dighe and Adv. Ashok Khutade. Judge A,S,Waghwase, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Nashik, is the President of the Programme.
The tournament, which is a T20 affair, will be played from December 27, 2021 to January 2, 2022 in Nashik. The matches will be played across 30-40 different grounds in Nashik. The competition will see a total of 80 teams participating. These teams include lawyers and judges from Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. All the teams will be divided into 28 groups. Each team will play two matches. The eight-day tournament will be divided into two; first three days will see league matches being played and the next five days will have the knock-outs. Only the top team/s from the group will qualify for the knockouts. Around 50 matches are expected to be played in a single day.
CricketGraph reached out to one of the organizers of the tournament, Adv. Vivekananda Jagdale, President Late. Ramkrushna Jagdale Foundation & Nashik District Advocate Cricket & Sports Association to understand about this unique cricket tournament organized for lawyers and judges.
About the tournament, Adv. Jagdale said, “We have been organizing this T20 cricket tournament for lawyers and judges since 2013. Every year, apart from ofcourse 2020, we successfully conducted this tournament. The last time we had this tournament was in 2019. We saw as many as 105 teams participating in the competition. Last year, that is 2020, due the COVID-19 imposed lockdown we could not organize this tournament. But this year, yes, we are excited for the tournament and hope to make it a grand success.”
Played at a cricket ground in Mumbai, it was a 25 over match between Eagle Strikers vs Falcon Reapers wherein Eagle Strikers after being put to bat first posted a total of 179/7 in 25 overs. Captain Rakesh Puthran at no.4 top scored for his team leading from the front with a knock of 57 runs in 39 balls. Rakesh smashed 4 fours and 2 sixes before he got retired hurt in the 21st over.
Falcon Reapers in reply were cleaned up for 158 runs courtesy a brilliant bowling spell by Saad Chunawala. Eagle defended the target with brilliance as Saad chunawala took 5 wickets from 5 overs conceding mere 21 runs. Saad was spot on with the ball providing crucial breakthroughs. Eagle Strikers won the match by 21 runs while Saad Chunawala was declared ‘man of the match” for his amazing fifer.

Played at Fatima Cricket Ground in Vidyavihar, Mumbai, Athletic Kangaroos opting to bat first posted a total of 207/6 in 20 overs. Openers Jigar Soni (37 runs) and Akshay Tungare gave a superb start with a 78 run opening stand in the first 9 overs. Akshay Tungare top scored for his team with a knock of 54 runs in 36 balls laced with 8 boundaries. Devesh Hirani also provided a crucial cameo at the middle order smashing 43 runs off 21 balls, an innings which had 3 sixes at a strike rate of almost 205.00
Misfits in reply gave a brilliant fightback and it was almost a match winning performance from their opener Sagar Kamble who scored 89 runs off 51 balls (15 fours). Sagar was well supported by Hanif Shaikh (31 runs off 19 balls) however the match ended up in a nerve ending thriller where it was difficult to concluded the winner till the very last ball of the innings. Misfits eventually fell short of 2 runs reaching 205/5 in 20 overs.

Played at Fatima Cricket Ground in Vidyavihar, Mumbai, Kensington Cricket Club of India opting to bat first posted a total of 190/4 in 20 overs. Openers Deepak Ramchandra and Tenzing Niyogi gave a flying start of 83 runs with both the openers smashing half centuries. Deepak scored 54 runs off 38 balls while Tenzing Niyogi top scored for his team with 81 runs off 54 balls laced with 11 fours and 2 sixes.
Mumbai Vikings in reply chased down a big total with a commanding ease courtesy a brilliant 2nd wicket stand between Asif Roshan and Asish Faujdar. Dr. Asif Roshan who opened the innings scored 57 runs off 45 balls while also stitched a game changing partnership of 155 runs for the 2nd wicket with Ashish Faujdar. Ashish scored a brilliant knock of 81 runs in 53 balls, an innings which included 15 boundaries as Mumbai Vikings crossed the victory line in the 19th over winning the match by 5 wickets.

Into the semi finals of the C & D Division Madhav Mantri One Day Tournament, Bohra Cricketers after being put to bat first were all out for 173/10 in 38.1 overs. Youngster Harsh Mogaveera top scored with 65 runs in an otherwise dismal batting show from the Bohra team. Musvair Khote bowled a brilliant impactful spell returning with a spell of 5/46 to unsettle the batters and restrict the opposition to a low total.
Chasing a total of 174, it seemed like a mere formality for the in-form Islam Gymkhana team. Opener Kaustub Pawar who has been in fine nick this season for Islam Gymkhana Club continued his good form with the bat to guide his team towards a 4 wicket win. Kaustub scored 75 runs as Islam Gymkhana crossed the victory line in the 34th over to enter into the finals of the Madhav Mantri Centenary One Day League.
Empire Industries Ltd opting to bat first at Parsee Cyclists, Azad Maidan posted a total of 217/10 in 39.1 overs. After losing some quick top order wickets, Opener Shawn (46 runs) and Kabir at no.4 resurrected the innings back with a crucial partnership of 63 runs. Kabir Malhotra emerged the top scorer in the match scoring a brilliant 108 off 104 balls. Kabir kept the scoreboard ticking despite wickets tumbling from the other end smashing 14 fours and a six to push his team towards a defendable total. From the bowlers, Sandeep Mundaye with 4/49 was the pick of the lot.
New Way Travels in reply were all out for 93 runs in 21.1 overs courtesy a brilliant bowling spell by Pranav Rana. Pranav returned with envious bowling figures of 6/15 in 7.1 overs including 2 maidens as Empire Industries won the match by 124 runs.

Shalini Bhalekar Tournament over the years have been a crucial platform for making it into the Mumbai U25 and Mumbai Senior Team contention. Players who are selected to play in this trophy give their best as watchful eyes are on their performances. Jahangir Pithawala XI after being put to bat first scored a total of 269/10 in 66.1 overs. Armaan Jaffer missed out on a well deserved hundred scoring 97 runs while Varun Lavande and Maxwell Swamianthan chipped in with 40’s.
Chandrakant Pandit XI in reply posted a massive total of 395/10 in 98.3 overs courtesy India U19 opener Divyaansh Saxena exhibiting a brilliant display of batting. The stylish left hander top scored for Chandrakant Pandit XI scoring an impressive knock of 178 almost scoring half of the team runs. Harshal Jadhav (89 runs) and Atharva Ankolekar (77 runs) also scored crucial half centuries. Saksham Jha with 5/113 was the pick of the lot as he came up with an impactful bowling performance.

Mumbai, December 24: Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav was in terrific form cracking a double century 249 runs (Min. 199, Balls-152, 37×4, 5×6) and placed hot favourites Parsee Gymkhana in a strong position having amassed a massive total of 524 for 9 wickets in their first innings of 90 overs, on the first day of their three-day final against defending champions Payyade Sports Club in the final of the Automotive Manufacturing-74th Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2021-2022, organised under the auspices of MCA, at the Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive on Friday.
Parsee Gymkhana sent into bat first dominated the rival bowling attack and middle-order bat Yadav belted the Payyade bowlers to all corners of the park during his marathon knock which was studded with 37 hits to the boundary ropes and creamed with five sixes.
Suryakumar was associated in two substantial partnerships with No. 3 batsman Aditya Tare who scored 73 runs and later with Sachin Yadav who contributed 63 runs to swell the total. Suryakumar and Tare stitched together 124 runs for the fourth wicket and he along with Sachin Yadav added 209 in a fifth-wicket association.
Suryakumar after spending 199 minutes in the middle was finally dismissed caught by Pradeesp Sahu of the bowling of left-arm medium-pacer Atif Attarwala much to the relief of the fielding side.
Off-spinner Siddesh Lad and Attarwala were the most successful Payyade bowlers claiming 3 wickets for 40 runs and 2 wickets for 50 runs respectively.
Payyade has a huge mountain to climb when they start their first innings on Christmas Day. They need to score at a brisk rate in order to surpass the rivals’ mammoth total and to have a chance of putting up a fight and retaining their title.

Nikhil smacked 14 fours and 4 sixes at a strike rate of almost 195.00 as he single handedly dismantled the opposition with his swashbuckling batting. Nikhil was well supported by Sivanandan Konar who scored 41 runs off 27 balls in their 74 run stand for the 2nd wicket.
Ace Cricket Club in reply managed to score 156/7 in 20 overs with Niket Korgaonkar at no.6 being the top scorer with 48* off 39 balls. It was a disciplined bowling performance from Antique Friends bowlers with Pratik Jadhav being the pick of the lot with 2/30 in 3 overs. Antique Friends won by 33 runs while Nikhil Bhatkar for his impressive century was declared ‘man of the match”
Ankit’s advice to the younger generations is “The players during older times didn’t get a lot of opportunities and platform to showcase their talent. But now players do get an ample opportunity to prove himself. So If a player has a long term goal regarding cricket in his mind and he works hard for it, it won’t be much difficult for him to achieve his goals.
