Mumbai: Eight leading teams from the city, including defending champions Parsee Gymkhana will be fighting it out for the top honours in the Bombay Gymkhana Ltd. organized Nirlon-R.F.S. Talyarkhan Memorial Invitation Cricket Tournament 2021-2022, which is scheduled to commence from Saturday, 19 February, 2022.

The tournament to be conducted under the auspices of Mumbai Cricket Association is being sponsored by Nirlon Ltd. and the initial round of matches will be played at the Cricket Club of India and Bombay Gymkhana grounds.

The 2019-2020 edition of this prestigious tournament in the Mumbai cricket calendar, which was to start in March 2019, was cancelled at the eleventh hour as the government authorities had imposed lockdown restrictions due to the surge in the Covid-19 cases in the city. The tournament could also not be played last year due to the same reasons. The other participating teams this year are Payyade Sports Club, Cricket Club of India, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, Mumbai Police Gymkhana, Islam Gymkhana, MIG Cricket Club, MCA Colts the runners-up of the edition, and hosts Bombay Gymkhana.

On the first day, Parsee Gymkhana meet Payyade SC and MCA Colts take on Bombay Gymkhana in first-round matches at Bombay Gymkhana, and in the matches at the CCI ground, Mumbai Police Gymkhana clash with Islam Gymkhana and hosts CCI will fight it out with P.J. Hindu Gymkhana to decide which team advances to the semi-finals. The two semi-finals are scheduled to be played on Sunday, February 20 and the date of the final is not yet decided.

Participating teams: Parsee Gymkhana, Payyade Sports Club, Cricket Club of India, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, Mumbai Police Gymkhana, Islam Gymkhana, MCA Colts, and Bombay Gymkhana.

Young Prodigy from Hyderabad who has been scoring runs at an average of 60.00+ since the time he started playing cricket continues to rule the batting charts, this time in Pongal Cup’22 which was conducted at Green View Cricket Ground in Hyderabad. Representing Iqbal Cricket Academy U14 Team, Aryan bagged 3 “Man of the match” awards in 5 games amassing 275 runs at 58.50 at a strike rate of almost 122.00. Apart from that, Aryan also chipped in with 5 wickets. Aryan with a score of 42.4 in MVP was also the most valuable player of the tournament. Here’s wishing the young lad all the luck for a great season ahead.

Played at Sassanian Wicket on Azad Maidan, Borivali CC opting to bat first posted a total of 269/4 in 40 overs. Opener Neelaksh Tambe scored a beautifully crafted century as he batted from start to end scoring an impressive 140* off 114 balls. Tambe’s innings included 17 boundaries while he was well supported by Divyam Shah and Imtiyaz Khan who scored 55 runs and 36 runs respectively.

Defending a total of 270, Borivali CC restricted Sangam CC to 160 runs all out in 34.3 overs. Experienced all-rounder Rakesh Naik once again proved to be a match winning returning with bowling figures of 5/20 in 6 overs.With this victory, Borivali CC won all 4 league matches now Qualify for the Quarter finals under the Captainship of Rakesh Naik.

 

 

Played at Navroz CC, Akumentis Healthcare after being put to bat first could only muster a total of 107/8 in 20 overs. Opener Atish Golatkar batted till the end scoring a 60 ball 55*, with wickets tumbling from other end, Atish could not accelerate much in the death overs. The bowlers did a tight job with Samir Shah bowling an impressive spell conceding mere 8 runs in 4 overs with a wicket. Apart from Samir, Dhaval P was the pick of the lot with 3/15 in 4 overs.

 

Chasing 108, Mettler Toledo chased down the score in 14.4 overs winning the match by 6 wkts.Opener Vaibhav Bhosale top scored with 38 runs while rest of the batters chipped in with cameos. Samir Joshi who bowled an economical spell of 8 runs in 4 overs alongwith 14 runs with the bat was declared ‘man of the match’

The auction for players to feature in the second edition of the IDFC First Bank MCA BKC RC Members Premier League (MPL) took place on February 12 in the Boundary Hall of MCA BKC facility. A total of five teams participated in the auction and 55 players went under the hammer. Every team had a fund of ₹10,00,000. Prior to the actual auction, each team got three chances, in a snake pattern, to pick their favourite players. Once the teams got what they wanted, the actual auction of players started. 

During the auction extravaganza, the highest price of ₹3,00,000 was bagged by Keyur Shah and Anand Thakkar in category A, while in category B, Bhoumick Vaidya was the leader of the pack. In category C and U, Rushabh Desai and Kamal Punwani were the richest buys as they attracted ₹60,000 and ₹1,80,000 respectively. 

At the end of the auction, all the five teams had 13 players each. It was a competitive auction as the team owners applied their strategies to get the best bet which would help them to formulate a balanced team, atleast on paper. With just 13 days to go for the second edition of the MCA BKC RC MPL, there is a lot of excitement and enthusiasm in the five participating camps. Just like the last edition, a lot of fireworks are expected this time around too.

Played at Oval Maidan in Mumbai, Abeer XI after being put to bat first posted a healthy total on board scoring 203/6 in 20 overs. Opener Sunil Chougle scored 39 runs, all-rounder Gagan Tripathi at no.4 scored 33 runs off 28 balls while it was Bharat Shukla at no.7 smashing a game changing 54* off 20 balls laced with 6 fours and 3 sixes. Bharat and Esrar put on 44 runs in the penultimate last 3 overs taking the team total to 200+

Invictus Cricket Club XI in reply were all out for 114 runs in 17.1 overs. All-Rounder Gagan Tripathi was the pick of the bowlers taking 3/17 in 3 overs while Mani Koundal also bagged 2/8 in 1.1 overs. Abeer XI won the finals by 89 runs becoming the champions of APL Pattem T20 Tournament while Gagan Tripathi for his all round performance was declared ‘man of the match’

Played at RR Patil Ground in Airoli, ithink Warriors after being put to bat first posted a healthy total of 203/6 in 20 overs. After losing both the openers early, it was Tarun Bangera smashing a match winning half century. Tarun scored 60 runs off 45 balls smashing 10 boundaries taking the team total to a respectable position.

Ithink Sportz Challengers in reply could only manage a total of 91/5 in 20 overs courtesy tight bowling by the bowlers. Arnav Bhoir with 3/21 in 4 overs was the pick of the lot while Tarun who scored 60 runs also took 1/11 in 4 overs. Ithink Sportz Warriors won by 18 runs and Tarun Bangera for his all round performance was declared ‘man of the match’

Played at Oval Ground in Mumbai, United Cricket Team after being put to bat first posted a massive total of 334/10 in 39.5 overs. Opening the innings, Ayush Singh smashed a brilliant century scoring 114 runs off 59 balls. Ayush set the stage for his team to reach a big total smashing 18 fours and 2 sixes at a strike rate of 193.22.  From the bowlers, Suyog Rane with 4/39 in 9 overs was the pick of the lot.

22 Yards in reply were all out for 115 runs 33.3 overs courtesy a brilliant bowling performance from the United bowlers.  5 of their bowlers bowled in tandem returning with 2 wkts each as United Cricket Team won the match by 219 runs. Abhigyan has been consistently scoring runs since many seasons and he is making a strong case for himself to make it into the Mumbai team.

His run scoring ability and his record 24,500 runs so far has made him a WORLD RECORD holder in the Indian Book of World Records too. Abhigyan holds the record for scoring maximum runs for an U16 Teenager. Abhigyan trains under Coach Chetan Jadhav at Avinash Salvi Foundation and the Coach as well as the Academy have played a great role in shaping Kundu’s career so far. Played at Cross Maidan in Mumbai, AB’s 360 after being put to bat first posted a total of 210/4 in 20 overs. Openers Omkar Patole and Nehul stitched a record 165 run opening stand pushing their team towards a commanding position. Omkar scored 87 runs off 62 balls laced with 10 fours and 2 sixes while Nehul scored 65 off 41 balls smashing 7 fours and 3 sixes.

 

Abeer XI in reply were all out for 108 runs with Sandesh taking 4/13 in 3.3 overs. AB’s 360 won the match by 102 runs while Omkar Patole for his impressive 87 was declared ‘man of the match’
