Mumbai: A total of 16 teams, including hosts and defending champions Islam Gymkhana and runners-up Muslim United Sports Club will be competing for the top honours in the 72nd Salar Jung Invitation T20 Cricket Tournament, organised by the Islam Gymkhana under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association, which starts from Saturday, March 19, 2022.
Strong favorites Parsee Gymkhana, Mumbai Police Gymkhana, Bombay Gymkhana, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, and Souvenir Cricket Club have all confirmed their participation in the tournament.
The other participating teams include Muslim Sports Club, Bohra Cricket Club, Young Friends Sports Club, United Friends Sports Club, Marwari Sports Club, Kurla Sports Club, Sponsor XI, Young Mohammedan Cricket Club, and Apollo Cricket Club.
The initial round of matches will be played at Parsee Gymkhana ground, Mumbai Police Gymkhana ground, Karnatak Sporting Association, and the Islam Gymkhana grounds. The two semi-finals and the final will be played at the Islam Gymkhana.

On March 15 and March 16, CGST & C.EX.Mumbai Zone locked horns against Repro India Ltd. during the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Corporate Trophy tournament. Repro India Ltd. won the toss and elected to bowl first.
CGST & C.EX.Mumbai Zone posted a mammoth score of 361 in 67.4 overs before they were bowled out by Repro India Ltd. Yash Chavan top scored with a masterclass 111 and found able allies in Rohan Marwaha (67), Prayag Bhatti (58) and Sagar Mishra (47). For Repro India Ltd. Yash Mahale was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped 5-105.
In reply, Repro India Ltd. could only manage to score a modest 173 as they were bundled out in 47.5 overs, losing the match by 188 runs. Sagar Mishra and Prayag Bhatti, who earlier starred with bat, performed well with the ball too as they ran through the opposition batting line up in quick time. While the slow left arm spinner Mishra wreaked havoc with 7-54, Bhatti struck with 3-3. Repro India Ltd.’s batters did not have any answers to the questions posed by Mishra and Bhatti.

On March 11, the Tata Power Co. Ltd. and J.K. Sports Club clashed against each other at Matunga Gymkhana during the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Corporate Trophy tournament. The Tata Power Co. Ltd. won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Riding on twin half-centuries from middle order bat Navnath Pawar (59 runs off 47 balls) and top order bat Atharva Adhikari (53 runs off 59 balls), J.K. Sports Club posted a fighting score of 226 in 38.5 overs. While Pawar hammered six boundaries and three sixes, Adhikari smashed five boundaries and two sixes. J.K. Sports Club were bowled out by the Tata Power Co. Ltd, thanks to right arm seamer Wilkin Mota, who wreaked havoc with the ball picking up 3-26 in 5.5 overs. Mota opened the bowling and bowled well with the new ball.
In reply, the Tata Power Co. Ltd. chased down the target with ease in 30.4 overs to win the match by four wickets. Opening batter Rohan Bane led the run chase from the front as he crafted a delectable 69 off 35 balls and received good support from Santosh Dighe and Uday Kolambe, who mustered 36 runs each. For J.K.Sports Club, the right arm off spinner Atharva Adhikari was the pick of the bowlers as he struck with 2-56 in eight overs. Adhikar’s all-round effort went in vain as his team J.K.Sports Club lost to the Tata Power Co. Ltd. by four wickets during the MCA Corporate Trophy.
Just fresh from a century in JFSC’s T20 tournament, Jay Bhoir continues his purple patch with the bat this time with an impactful half century. CISCO batting first scored a total of 147/8 in 20 overs with Suraj (42 runs) and Vinay (32 runs) being the top scorers. From the bowlers, Jaykishan with 4/29 in 3 overs was the pick of the lot.
Incred in reply chased down the score with ease wining the match by 3wkts and 3.2 overs to spare. Incred who were struggling at one stage with scoreboard reading 5/78, it was Jay Bhoir at no.7 who scored 60* off 33 balls which included 6 fours and 1 six to push his team towards a exciting victory. Jay for his unbeaten half century was also declared ‘man of the match’
Played at MCA Kandivali, Income Tax batting first posted a total of 313/10 in 69.4 overs. Opener Anup Fulpar piled on half of the team runs smashing 169 off 201 balls laced with 24 boundaries and 4 sixes. Anup kept the scoreboard ticking despite wickets tumbling from the other end.

Jain Irrigation in reply scored 315 runs in 88.4 overs and it was young in form prodigy Suved Parkar missing out on a brilliant double ton. Suved smashed an impressive 196 off 283 balls smashing 23 fours and 2 sixes helping his team reach in a commanding position. Income Tax in 2nd innings were all out for 213 runs with Anup Fulpar (49 runs) and Vishant More (50 runs) being the top scorers.
Jain Irrigation in reply were 181/7 in 43 overs at the end of the game’s play where in Urvesh Patel was the top scorer at the middle order with 50 runs off 66 balls. Jain Irrigation won the match on 1st innings lead and it was certainly Suved and Anup who stood as standout performers in the match.

Played at MCA SRT Ground in Kandivali, BPCL opting to bat first posted a total of 347/10 in 103.5 overs. No.3 Batsman Pranav Kela and Eknath Kerkar stitched a very crucial partnership as both the batters hit half centuries. Pranav scored 72 off 136 balls while wicket-keeper batsman Eknath Kerkar scored 80 off 122 balls. Onkar Khanvilkar (54 runs) and Dhawal Kulkarni (43 runs) at lower order also stitched a very important partnership with their cameos. From the bowlers, Vidyadhar Kamath with 4/93 in 27 overs was the pick of the lot.
Central Railways in reply were cleaned up for 124 runs in 39.5 overs as BPCL’s star studded bowling line up delivered in the finals. Fast Bowler Minad Manjrekar was the pick of the lot with 3/6 in 8 overs while Bhavin Thakkar, Dhawal Kulkarni and Rajesh Sardar bagged 2 wkts each.
BPCL won the match by 223 runs taking 1st innings lead and become the Champions of A Division Times Cricket Shield.

On March 17, Central Railway Institute Dadar and J.K. Sports Club clashed against each other during the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Corporate Trophy tournament. Central Railway Institute Dadar won the toss and elected to bat first.
Riding on Prashant Nair’s 76 and Pranav Gupta’s 45, Central Railway Institute Dadar piled up a respectable score of 7-224 in 40 overs. For J.K. Sports Club, Vishal Nikam and Abhishek Shetigar were the top performers with the ball as they scalped 3-24 and 3-41 respectively.
In reply, J.K. Sports Club could manage to score a paltry 120 as they were bundled out in 25.4 overs, losing the match by 104 runs. None of the batters looked in good touch and made a beeline to the pavilion in quick time, thanks to Central Railway Institute Dadar’s Durvesh Patil. Patil wreaked havoc with the ball as he struck with 5-36. He bowled in the right areas on a consistent basis and yielded rich dividends.

On March 17, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) took on Western Railway Traffic S.C at Cross Maidan during the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Corporate Trophy tournament. Western Railway Traffic S.C won the toss and elected to bat first.
Riding on opening batter Kush Kariya’s delectable 120 off 103 balls, Western Railway Traffic S.C posted a competitive score of 8-231 in 40 overs. For ONGC, the right arm off spinner Sachin Khartade was the pick of the bowlers as he wreaked havoc with the ball scalping 4-46 in his eight overs.
In reply, ONGC made a mockery of the chase as they completed the formalities in just 25.4 overs to win the match comprehensively by eight wickets. The opening batter in the form of Parth Pathak led the run chase from the front as he plundered an undefeated 93 off just 75 balls to power his team to an easy win. Pathak smashed 10 boundaries and a six during his entertaining knock. He stitched a 85-run partnership with his opening partner Addit Degaoukar (43 runs off 34 balls) in just 11.4 overs to lay a solid foundation for the run chase. Addit hammered five boundaries and a six to take the attack to the opposition. Saurabh Raut was the other batter to contribute with a useful 64 not out off just 31 balls in ONGC’s cause. For Western Railway Traffic S.C, Hitesh Patel and Bharat Solanki were the wicket-takers as they struck with one wicket each.

On March 15 and March 16, Teleperformance Global SPL locked horns against Hindustan Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (HPCL) at Worli Sports Club during the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Corporate Trophy tournament. Teleperformance Global SPL won the toss and elected to bat first.
Riding on Raunaq Sharma’s delectable 90, Teleperformance Global SPL posted a mammoth total of 291 in 52.5 overs. Sharma was the top run scorer for his team and his 66-ball innings was embellished with 10 boundaries and four sixes. Kalpesh Sawant (45 runs) and Aarya Desai (42 runs) also made some useful contributions with the bat to help their team post a competitive score. At one stage, Teleperformance Global SPL were struggling at 6-115 in 27.2 overs but then Sharma and Sawant came together to stitch an 88-run partnership off 79 balls for the seventh wicket. For HPCL, Anurag Singh was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped 5-79.
In reply, HPCL could manage to score only 73 runs as they were bundled out cheaply in 24.4 overs, losing the match by 218 runs. None of the HPCL batters looked in shape as they made a beeline to the pavilion in quick time. For Teleperformance Global SPL, Sunny Patel and Asif Shaikh were the top performers with the ball as they struck with 3-9 and 3-16 respectively.

On March 10, DTDC Express Ltd. locked horns against B. Arunkumar Sports Club during the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Corporate Trophy tournament. DTDC Express Ltd. won the toss and elected to bowl first.
Batting first, B. Arunkumar Sports Club was bowled out for a modest 137 in 31.3 overs. Out of the 137 runs, Jai Jain muscled 77 runs and received almost no support from the rest of the batters. Jain top scored for B. Arunkumar Sports Club as he struck a masterclass half-century. For DTDC Express Ltd., Devendranath Parida was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped 4-25 and was well supported by Yogesh Sawant who chipped in with 3-18.
In reply, DTDC Express Ltd. made the run chase of 138 look like a cake walk as they cruised to an easy eight wicket win. They completed the formalities in just 13.5 overs. Anish Choudhary and vaibhav Patil led the run chase as they crafted delectable 83 and 40 respectively. The duo played some good looking shots and ran well between the wickets. Choudhary’s innings played an integral role for his team’s success against B.Arunkumar Sports Club.
