All-Rounder Rakesh Naik continues his prominence in Kanga with 58 & 7wkts for Borivali CC in G Div Kanga League’19
Borivali CC after being put to bat first at MB Union, Cross Maidan managed to score a total of 162/9 dec in 61 overs. Borivali team which was struggling at one stage with 6/74 reached a respectable total thanks to their skipper Rakesh Naik scoring a 103 ball 58 at no.7 pushing the team towards a respectable total. From Shree Lad Club, Bhavik Patel with 4/72 in 22 overs was the pick of the lot.
Shree Lad Club in reply struggled a bit vs the Borivali CC bowlers as they suffered a batting collapse with team getting all out for 42 runs in 33 overs. Rakesh Naik who first rescued the team with the bat also came up with a sensational bowling spell taking 7/13 in 12.3 overs with 4 maidens. The left arm spinner made the batsman’s life miserable as he hardly gave any players the room to score runs freely. Borivali CC won the match on 1st innings while it was essentially a one man show by the skipper Rakesh Naik leading from the front.
Probably a decade down the line, players like Rakesh Naik will be remembered as one of the prolific kanga all-Rounders of Mumbai. Since the last 3years he has been topping various charts of Kanga whether scoring the fastest hundreds to taking maximum fifers in a season to becoming one of the top wicket takers in his division. Rakesh has been impressive with his all-round consistency and it’s just a matter of time he gets opportunities at the higher levels of cricket.
