Akshay Mhapankar & Sachin Solanki shine in Viva Supermarket’s win

In a fiercely fought contest, Viva Supermarket pipped RBI Sports Club by two wickets at Parsee Gymkhana Ground, Mumbai, on February 1.

Batting first, RBI were bundled out for 221 in 39.5 overs. Sumit Ghadigaonkar was the lone warrior in the fight as he top-scored with 96 off 88. His innings was laced with six boundaries and four sixes. On the other hand, Sachin Solanki was the pick of the bowlers for Viva Supermarket, as he snapped 29/4 in 7.5 overs.

In reply, Viva Supermarket overhauled the target in 39.1 overs and won the match by two wickets. Captain Akshay Mhapankar led the run chase from the front for Viva Supermarket with a valiant 89 off 108. He smashed three boundaries and four sixes in his match-winning innings. Makrand Patil also made a major contribution with the bat for Viva Supermarket with a 33-ball 51. For RBI, Hussain and Jyot Chhaya were the most successful bowlers, with two scalps apiece.

Cricket is a sport that Juili picked up right from her childhood days. Her journey from playing with the boys in the compound walls to practising under the able aegis of Jonty Rhodes has been a spectacular one.
She was a part of Mumbai Women’s U-19 and U-23 probables during her four-year stint at the MCA. As a middle order bat and a part time medium pace bowler, she also represented Mumbai University at All-India University Women’s Cricket for two years.

In the quest of further education, she discontinued with the sport. Currently she is pursuing her Ph.D in Finance from IIT Bombay’s School of Management.
