A powerful start provided by the openers Vishal Pendurkar (61 runs off 34 balls) and Vicky (76 runs off 49 balls) helped Sodexo post a daunting target of 199-5 in 20 overs against CGI at RBI ground, Mumbai on 19th March during the Dreamz T20 Cricket Tournament. Both these players smacked the CGI bowlers all-round the park and were a treat to watch. They dominated the bowling right from the start and did not let loose. Rakesh was the pick of the bowlers picking up 3-21 in three overs.
Chasing 200 runs at the rate of 10 runs per over was always going to be tough for CGI. The opening pair of Aditya (30 runs off 40 balls) and Tushar (29 runs off 13 balls) gave a good start to CGI but the middle order failed to capitalize on it. They were restricted to 150-7 in 20 overs, falling short of 49 runs. Towards the end, Atul tried to accelerate with a quick-fire 27 off 15 balls, but it was too late in the day for his team to achieve the target. Jay shined with the ball, grabbing 3-36 in his four overs. First with the bat and then with the ball, Vishal rolled his arm over to pick up 2-20 in his three overs.
Vishal Pendurkar (61 runs off 34 balls and 2-20 in 3 overs) was declared as the Man of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance.
It was a dismal batting performance from Deutsche Bank on 12th March at Oval ground, Mumbai when they took on HUL in the semi-final of Elite Group Dreamz T20 Cricket Tournament. Batting first, Deutsche Bank could barely manage a modest 108-8 in 20 overs. Sushant was the top run-getter with 45 runs off 38 balls and remained unbeaten at the end of the innings. He was aggressive right from the start and paced his innings perfectly well. V. Bagul and N. Thakur picked up couple of wickets each and bowled well in tandem to restrict Deutsche Bank to a humble 108 in 20 overs.
In reply, HUL achieved the target in just 16.5 overs, keeping six wickets in hand. Sachin Kawade (26), Jatin Khurana (22) and Rajesh Jadhav (29 not out off 16 balls) took their team home. Jadhav was brilliant with the bat and smacked the Deutsche Bank bowlers all-round the park. In his quick-fire innings, he peppered the boundary rope six times. It was indeed a splendid spectacle to watch him bat.
Rajesh Jadhav (29 not out off 16 balls) was announced as the Man of the Match for his match winning cameo knock.
ICICI Prudential posted a defendable 139-7 in 20 overs against Naaptol on 20th March at the Venus Sports Academy ground, Mumbai during the Woods T20 Corporate Cricket Tournament. Nitin top scored with 38 runs off 37 balls, striking at a strike rate of just over 100. He smacked five boundaries in his entertaining innings and shouldered the batting responsibility for his team brilliantly. Sameer was the other batsman who scored 29 runs off 32 balls and helped his team cross the 130-run mark. Kiran shined with the ball as he grabbed 3-20 in his four overs.
Moees (54 runs off 30 balls), who opened the innings for Naaptol was the star performer scoring a fantastic half century. He smacked 11 boundaries and played through the innings. His contribution went in vain as none of the other batsmen could chip in. Naaptol was bundled out for a paltry 84 in 12.2 overs, thus losing the match by 55 runs. Nitin and Shahnawaz were the pick of the bowlers picking up three wickets each.
Nitin (38 runs off 37 balls and 3-21 in 4 overs) was declared as the Man of the Match for his splendid all-round performance.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, IDBI posted a challenging 140-6 in their full quota of 20 overs against CGI on 12th March at Fort Vijay ground, Mumbai in the Plate A Dreamz T20 semi-final. IDBI’s batsmen chipped in with small but useful contributions, with opening bat Vicky top scoring with 29 runs off 23 balls. Navnath was the pick of the bowlers grabbing 3-25 in his spell of four overs. Alap and Vibodh also picked up one wicket apiece.
It was a wonderful batting effort from CGI, but they failed to achieve the target as they were restricted to 134-5 in 20 overs, falling short of six runs. Alap who opened the innings played exceptionally well for his 82 off 57 cherries. He was a treat to watch, striking odd boundaries at his will. Alap pierced the gaps well and scored at a strike rate of close to 140. Alap’s efforts went in vain as his team could not achieve the target. Rajesh was the best bowler for IDBI picking up 2-18 in his four overs. With this win, IDBI reached the final of Plate A Dreamz T20 Cricket Tournament.

SS Travels thrashed AN Lions last week in what turned out to be a one sided affair in Mumbai during the JD Sports Club Corporate T20 Cricket Tournament. Jitendra Deshmukh, who was a player first, then coach and umpire is the man behind this tournament. He has different feathers to his cricketing cap.
Swapnil Rawat played well for his 65 off just 44 balls and was instrumental in taking his team to a respectable score of 143 in 20 overs. However he did not get enough support from the rest of the batting line-up. Sachin Kurmi was the pick of the bowlers for SS Travels, picking up 3-28 in four overs. Jaydeep and Sumit too rolled their arms over to grab two wickets apiece. Kurmi was consistent and accurate throughout his spell, not allowing the batsmen to take him on.
In reply, it was just too easy for SS Travels as the top three batsmen took them home. Opening bat Sameer Rane top scored with a brilliant 61 off 41 cherries and remained unbeaten at the end of the innings. Coming in at no.3, Sachin Kurmi played a classic knock of 42 runs off 39 balls to see his team through. Not only with the ball but also with the bat, Kurmi contributed in his team’s success. SS Travels chased down the target in 15.5 overs, winning the match by nine wickets.
Sachin Kurmi (3-28 in 4 overs and 42 not out off 39 balls) was declared as the Man of the Match prize for his outstanding all-round efforts.
Mediacom outperformed Citi Bank on 9th March in the semi-final of Dreamz T20 Cricket Tournament at Azad Maidan, Mumbai. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Citi Bank posted a defendable 141-9 in 20 overs. Opening pair of Sandesh and Hasnain gave a solid start to the innings, contributing 39 runs each. However the middle order collapsed like a back of cards, with no major contributions from any of the batsmen. Rajiv, Latesh and Amol bowled well in tandem to grab couple of wickets apiece.
Chasing 142 runs in a semi-final could have been otherwise tricky, if opening bat Ketan Karnik would not have provided a good start. Having lost the other opener Sachin cheaply for just 2 runs, Ketan (87) and Sahil (38*) shouldered the responsibility well to take their team home. Ketan batted exceptionally well and played some eye-popping cricketing shots. His innings was peppered with 15 boundaries. Karnik was a treat to watch. There was nothing much for Citi bowlers apart from Shravan and Amar who accounted for one scalp each. Mediacom chased down the target in just 17 overs, keeping eight wickets in hand.
Ketan Karnik (87 runs off 57 balls) was honoured with the Man of the Match for his wonderful batting performance.
