Mumbai, 27 November, 2019 : Lalchand Rajput XI’s middle order batsmen Pranav Kela and Onkar Jadhav dominated the Jahangir Pithawala XI bowlers as they both cracked unbeaten centuries to place their team in a strong position on the second day of their 3-day second round league match of the 24th Shalini Bhalekar Trophy (boys’ under-23) Selection Trials cricket tournament 2019, organized by Mangesh Bhalekar in association with the Dadar Parsi Zoroastrian Sports Club and played at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana I ground, Kandivali, on Wednesday. The tournament is being conducted under the auspices of the Mumbai Cricket Association.

Resuming at the overnight score of 390 for 4 wickets in 87 overs, Rajput XI did not lose a single wicket as Kela scored a quick 119 runs not out and Jadhav was unbeaten on 101 runs when they declared their first innings at 605 for 4 wickets in 142.5 overs. Rajput XI then added further misery to their opponents as Pithawala XI were struggling at 103 for 5 wickets in 28 overs in their first innings. Karan Shah was the only batsman to score a decent 34 runs.

In the second match, Dilip Vengsarkar XI snatched a slender 18 runs first innings lead against Chandrakant Pandit XI. Vengsarkar XI had scored 308 in the first essay and despite Agni Chopra’s century knock of 107 runs and Srujan Athawale’s contribution of 64 runs Pandit XI managed to score 290 in 73 overs to surrender the advantage to Vengsarkar XI, who in their second innings are place at 93 for 2 wickets. When Vengsarkar XI resume their innings they will enjoy an overall lead of 111 runs when play resumes on Thursday.

Gaud Saraswat CC after being put to bat first at Western Railway, Cross Maidan were at one stage struggling with 4 wkts down for 30 runs and 7 wkts down for 84 runs. At a time when a defeat looked quite inevitable on the cards, it was Mayuresh Yadav scripting a change in the game as he went on to scored a quickfire 96 runs off 85 balls coming at no.7. It was an innings of pure aggressive strokeplay as he smashed 7 sixes and 4 boudaries to take out his team from the trouble. Mayuresh also received nice support from Pramod Wagh (40 off 24) and Mangesh Jadhav (38* off 58) as Gaud Saraswat reached a total of 215/10 in 45 overs. From the bowlers, it was Digvijay Singh once again showing his prowess taking 7/66 in 21 overs coupled with 4 maidens. Digvijay Singh now has a stunning 31 wkts in just 7 innings which he has played in Kanga this season.

 Amar CC in reply were 198/7 in 35 overs with Sumeet Sharma top scoring at the middle order with 73 runs before the match ended in a draw. However, Gaud Saraswat could have faced a defeat had it not been their middle and lower middle order not fighting it out.

 

United Friends Sports Club after batting first on Sainath SC wicket were cleaned up for mere 69 runs in 26.2 overs thanks to their in-form spinner Abhishek Pandey. Left arm spinner Abhishek who has been a revelation in this tournament returned with excellent bowling figures of 7/25 in 7.2 overs which helped Sainath SC win on 1st innings lead as they declared their 1st innings at 136/4 in 17.5 overs powered by two superb half centuries by opener Umesh Gurjar (52 off 36) and Yash Chavan (53* off 40 balls).

Besides Rudra’s massive effort, the other Vengsarkar XI who made useful contributions was Sarfaraz Khan 34 runs and Ajit Pahalwan 36 runs. Chandrakant Pandit successful bowlers were Yashraj Malap (3 for 64) and Maxwell Swaminathan (4 for 38). Pandit XI scored 83 for 1 wicket, in 21.0 overs in their first innings. Srujan Athawale (37 runs) and Agni Chopra (34 runs) are batting and will resume their innings on the second day.

In the second match, Lalchand Rajput XI scored a whopping 390 runs for the loss of just 4 wickets in 87 overs against Jahangir Pithawala XI. Adeeb Usmani powered his way to a 112 runs knock (183 balls, 18×4), while substantial scores came from Siddharth Akre (90 runs), Bhupen Lalwani (72 runs) and Harshit Janwadkar (69 runs). Aman Khan (2 for 72) was the only Jahangir Pithawala XI bowler to get the wickets.

JNS Jaguars opting to bat first at the Somaiya Cricket Ground had all their batsman chipping in with quick starts but they lacked someone who could convert into a half century or more. Hemal Chitalia top scored with an aggressive 38 off 24 balls (5 fours) which accelerated the team total to 156/7 in 20 overs. From the bowlers, Alif Malkani was the pick of the lot taking 3/30 in 4 overs.

Chasing a 150+ score is always tricky and Fazlani United must have felt the pressure of chasing as they were bundled out for 117 runs in 19.3 overs. With the team struggling at 4/23, it was Samad Motorwala raising the hopes with a fighting knock of 54 runs in 40 balls coming at no.5. Samad smashed 2 fours and 4 sixes but lacked support from the other end as JNS Jaguars bowlers did an excellent job with everyone coming up with handy spells clipping away a wicket or two at regular junctures.

OIS Blasters opting to bat first at the Somaiya Cricket Ground (Sion) posted a modest total of 127/6 in 20 overs. Even though they lost a few quick top order wickets, Ravi Tiwary at no.4 scored a gritty 42 off 43 balls to push his team towards a total in 3 digits.

Utpal Warriors who lost both their openers in the first few overs of the match were in some trouble but it was the unbeaten 107* run stand for the 4th wicket between Kalpesh Mehta and Asgar Khan which sealed the deal for Utpal Warriors. Kalpesh Mehta scored a quickfire 50* off 35 balls (8 fours) while Asgar Khan played the supporting role hitting a 29 ball 35*to chase down the target in mere 14.5 overs.

Result-Utpal Warriors win the match by 7 wkts and 5.1 overs to spare.

Mystic Jaguars opting to bat first at Somaiya Cricket Ground notched up a healthy total of 155/5 in 20 overs. The openers gave a brilliant 73 runs start to the innings while opener Kunal Jhaveri continued the good start into a solid innings of 61* in 67 balls anchoring his team towards a competitive total. The rest of the batters batted around him as he kept the scoreboard ticking with the occasional boundaries and good running between the wickets.

BD Royals in reply managed to score only 129/7 despite Kumar Adnani’s heroic efforts of 65 runs in 54 balls. Kumar showed fantastic resistance despite wickets tumbling from the other hand. Mystic bowlers were bang on with almost everyone contributing with a wicket. Jesal Thakkar was the pick of the lot taking 2/16 in 4 overs.

Result-Mystic Jaguars won the match by 26 runs       

Space CC opting to bat first at Worli SC Ground notched up a commanding total of 490/9 dec powered by their opener Japjeept Singh Randhawa’s brilliant 114 runs. Japjeept opening the innings smashed 11 boundaries and 2 sixes as he displayed controlled aggression progressing through his innings. Apart from him, the space cc middle order also batted really well with Faizan Pathan (59), Shubham Dubey (85), Vinit Parab (68) and Sumedh Kamble (44) all contributing with important knocks to solidify their team’s position in the match.

Nirlon team in reply were all out for 182 runs with Abhishek Chaurasiya coming up with a match winning bowling spell of 6/74 in 20.1 overs. Abhishek was impressive as he owned the day with some tight bowling keeping the Nirlon batters in check. Nirlon receiving a follow on were 132/7 before the game ended with Space CC winning the match on 1st innings lead.

 

In the MCC U-10 Cricket Tournament 2019, at shivaji park  the 8 year old Agastya Kashikar playing for Abhiveera Boys Group continued his good show.

Playing on young maharashtra wicket Agastya Kashikar scored elegant 47 runs against TeamWork Sports club. Agastya had bagged the man of the match award in his previous match for his excellent allround show scoring 38 runs and bagging a brilliant fifer with an enviable bowling figures of 5-4-1-5.

In the other match, Shrihann Haridass playing for Achievers Club Chembur at kamat memorial wicket  impressed once again with his brisk 90 against Sawant Academy. In previous match he had scored a 100. Feb 2009 born Shrihann is Captain and Wicket-keeper of his team.


Shrihann Haridaass now tops the chart for most runs (190 runs) in this on-going MCC U-10 Tournament 2019 followed by Agastya Kashikar with 85 runs in 2 matches.

For most wickets in the tournament, Agastya is leading the chart with 6 prized scalps.

Mumbai, November 24, 2019 : A match-winning bowling effort from left-arm spinner Vinayak Bhoir (5 for 25) was the highlight of Karnatak Sporting Association’s 104 runs victory against Parkophene Cricketers in their Group-A league match on the second day of the two-day match of the 72nd Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2019, and played at the Karnatak Sporting Association, Cross Maidan  on Sunday. The tournament is being sponsored by Eagle Thane Strikers.

The Parkophene Cricketers were unable to get going and stay long in the middle. Most of their batters succumbed to Bhoir’s disciplined performance and they lost wickets cheaply and at regular intervals before their innings collapsed at 125 all out in 35 overs. Amogh Bhatkal was the only bastman to score 35 runs.

Earlier, thanks to Rudra Dhanday’s solid 126 runs (144 balls, 17×4) knock Karantak SA were dismissed for a modest total of 230 runs in 51.1 overs on the first day. Pardeep Sahu (6 for 57) had picked up the wickets for Parkophene Cricketers.
