45th Thane Vaibhav 35 over Cricket Tournament 2019 – VOLTAS sports club VS WNS Global Services, played at Dadoji Kondadev Stadium, Thane on 9th December. Toss won by WNS Global and VOLTAS were put to bat first.

As the pitch was a flat deck, the bowlers of WNS Global used a different strategy to put the pressure on the VOLTAS batsmen; the bowlers were enticing the batsmen to hit on the off side and had packed up the off side. Off spinner Kiran Desai bowled a splendid spell of 4-43 in 7 overs, backing him up Right arm medium bowler Rahul Kirodian bowled a tight spell of 3-25.The VOLTAS batsmen fell prey to that and ended up only scoring 82 runs in 18.2 over.  It was all hara-kiri in the middle with all the batsmen failing to steady the innings.

Getting a slight taste of the pitch, the WNS Global batters went all guns blazing with intent to get the match done in the earliest time. They did that successfully in just 11 overs losing 2 wickets. Opener Ajinkya Patil scored a quick 33 off 29 balls.

Titans batting first at Somaiya Ground were bundled out for a low total of 78 runs in 13.3 overs. It was some excellent bowling on display as the bowlers did not allow the batsman to score runs freely while kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. Vivek Singh was the pick of the lot with 3/25 in 4 overs while Kapil Popat, Amar Chopra and Sachin Ambre bagged 2 wkts each in what turned out to be a collective bowling performance.

Wicketing Wizards in reply chased down the total in 14.3 overs winning the match by 4 wkts. With 5 down for 23 runs, even they faced some hiccups while chasing but it was Jimit Ganatra’s unbeaten 30* off 29 balls and Vivek Singh’s 20 ball 13 which helped the team sail through.

Mystic Jaguars after being put to bat first at Somaiya Cricket Groud managed only 110/7 in 20 overs. With scoreboard at one stage reading 24/4, it was crucial cameos by Sameer Shetty (36*) & Shamin Karbhari (25*off 12) down the order ensuring their team reaches a somewhat respectable total. From the bowlers, Jatin Mehta bowled a very tight spell of 2/15 in 4 overs alongwith a maiden alongwith Kapil Makwana’s 2/16 in 4 overs which also proved to be a crucial spell in the match.

Rising Strikers in reply chased down the total in 17.3 overs winning the match by 7 wkts. Chintan Killawala (39 off 35) & Shravan Rathod (22* off 30) were the highest scorers while Chirag Joshi played the supporting role of 18* in 20 deliveries.

Titans batting first at Somaiya Cricket Ground did not manage to ruffle up the feathers of VMS bowlers as they could only muster a total of 120/9 in 20 overs. Thanks to Nimish Raut’s quick 34 off 20 balls down the order, Titans could atleast give a 6 runs per over chase to the opposition. From the VMS Bowlers, Amit Noorani (2/16 in 4 overs) & Rahul Bhadeshwar (2/33 in 4 overs) were the pick of the lot.

Chasing 121 looked like a cakewalk for VMS team as they chased down the total in just 16.5 overs winning the match by 5 wkts. With some quick top order wickets, it was Sajjad (23* off 23 balls) and Shailesh Maniya (43* off 19 balls) turning the game for their team.  Shailesh was in no mood to take the game till the last over as he plonked 3 fours and 3 sixes to ensure his team won the match in an commanding manner.

Young Parsee CC batting first at RTO, Azad Maidan posted a decent total of 251/6 in 45 overs. Opener Divyendu Shekhar scored 50 runs while Mandar Mayekar coming at no.5 top scored with a blazing 107 off just 87 balls. Mandar counter attacked the bowlers as he smashed 9 fours and 6 biggies to push his team towards a competitive total.

Chasing 252, Dilip Vengsarkar Foundation were all out for 172 runs out of which 113* off 92 balls was scored by their talented opener Rushikesh More. The 2nd highest score in entire innings was 11 with 7 players getting out in single digits as More lacked support from the other end. Mandar Mayekar starred with the ball took being the pick of the lot with 3/26 in 9 overs as Young Parsee CC won the match by 79 runs.

Victory CC after being put to bat first at Khar Gymkhana posted a massive total of 407/10 in 70 overs. Despite some early hiccups and 4 wkts down for 108 runs, it was their promising all-rounder Dhrumil Matkar coming up with a brilliant knock of 158 in 158 balls. The left hander who is working on his batting this season seems to be showing up results as he smashed 15 fours and 6 sixes to carve a name for his batting too. Dhrumil got good support from Azhar Ansari (42) & Rakesh Prabhu (47) down the order as Victory CC reached a commanding total. Left arm spinner Ajay Mishra with 5/66 was the pick of the lot for Khar Gymkhana.

Shrirang Kapse

 

Khar Gymkhana also lost wickets at regular intervals which proved to be costly for them while chasing a 400+ total. Shrirang Kapse coming at no.4 went all guns blazing scoring a stylish 175 off 161 balls which had as many as 10 sixes and 18 fours to his name. Shrirang also received support from Priyank Shetty (47) and Dinar Gaonkar (63) but that did not prove to be enough as they were all out for 365 runs. All-rounder Jay Bista and Shashank Attarde with 3 wkts each were the pick of the bowlers as Victory CC won the match by 42 runs.

Played at the Elf Oval Maidan between Don Bosco and Parle Tilak School, Don Bosco batting first were all out for a meagre total of 95 runs where in only one batsman stood out in the name of Sudesh Pednekar who scored a fighting knock of 63 runs while the remaining 10 batters could only muster 32 runs between themselves.

Parle Tilak in reply were all out for 113 runs thanks to a superb spell by Harsh Mendon who came up with bowling figures of 6/33 in 16.1 overs. Harsh who now has 18 wkts in 6 games has been spot on this season taking wickets at regular intervals. Don Bosco in the 2nd innings played well scoring 152/5 dec with Sudesh Pednekar again being the highest scorer with 55 runs.

KCC opting to bat first at the Somaiya Ground posted a decent total of 167/6 in 20 overs. Tenzing Niyogi coming at no.3 top scored with a brilliant 62 off 48 balls laced with 4 fours and 1 six. Tenzing got good support from his middle order mates as they somehow pushed their team towards a competitive total. From the bowlers, Piyush Patel with 2/28 in 3 overs was the pick of the bowlers.

Superheroes in reply could only manage 149/7 with Amogh’s 36 being the highest score. Tapan Mehta bowled an excellent spell picking up 3 wkts for just 17 runs in 4 overs while he got good support from Sameer Sawant who took 2/31 in 4 overs.

KCC won the match by 13 runs while Tenzing Niyogi was declared ‘man of the match’

DIAS Aces batting first at Somaiya Cricket Ground posted a total of 135/4 in 20 overs. Even though they had wickets in hand but the bowlers kept it tight not allowing the batters to score freely.  From Dias, Siddarth G (31) & Kumar Singhee (31*) were the highest scorers while Ashwin Shete (1/12 in 4 overs) & Ambish Shah (1/30) were the pick of the bowlers.

 

Chasing 136 looked like a mere formality for BD Smashers thanks to a blazing 71* off 46 balls by Ambish Shah (11 fours , 1six) who perfectly anchored the chase while Mohit Chaturvedi (31 off 17) also gave a handy cameo to ensure a win for BD Smashers by 5 wkts & 5 overs to spare. Ambish Shah for his all-round heroics was also declared ‘man of the match’

Karnataka Sports Association batting first at Cross Maidan posted a handsome total of 378/5 in 70 overs. After a good opening start by Rudra Dhanday (55) & Shrideep Mangela (29), it was Mumbai’s wicket-keeper  batsman Eknath Kerkar showing pure class en-route his classy 132 off 158 balls (15 fours, 3 sixes). What’s more, Eknath found an able ally in Akash Parkar with whom he stitched a 267 run stand for the 4th wicket. Akash who came at no.5 top scored with 144 runs in just 132 balls playing in his natural fashion hitting 15 fours & 7 sixes.

Chasing 379, National CC were off to a stunning start with openers putting on 180 runs in 36 overs. Jiniv Joshi scored a gritty 88 while left handed Prathamesh Pawar went on to anchor the chase smashing an elegant 144 off 179 balls (15 fours).

Despite such a superb opening start, National CC failed to capitalize with as many as 8 players getting out in single digits. Sachin Gill (50) at middle order showed some resistance but lacked support as National CC were all out for 322 runs.

Vinayak Bhoir 

 

Left arm experienced spinner Vinayak Bhoir turned the tables coming up with match winning bowling figures of 7/80 in 16 overs as Karnatak Sporting Association won the match by 56 runs.
